The therianthropy that I'm talking about does not deal with the physically changing into animals, or the actions of animals...

Therianthropy is the deep association with an animal or animals either mentally, physically, and/or spiritually. Sometimes referred to as were-creatures.

Unlike Werewolf or were-creature myths, people who are therianthropes do not shape-shift... Actually, they have animalistic influences in their daily lives. Such influences can be summed up into different groups of "shifts" such as: Mental shifts which the person often takes on the mentality of the animal or animals they associate with [called a Theriotype]; Phantom shifts, which act just like phantom limbs [the feeling that a part is there when physically it is not], but does not require the part of the body to be amputated in order to happen; Dream shifts, which take part when the person is sleeping, he or she may dream of taking the form of their theriotype[s] whether in the actual animal's form, or a more humanized animal... These just name a few of the most common type of shifts.
