I inherited my great aunt's wedding dress from the 1930s-40s, it's in wonderful condition, but I know I won't wear it since it doesn't fit and is very antique. I was wondering if anyone knew of places other than ebay that I could sell it, or if there are any museums that would purchase it because I would love if someone else could use it on their special day or it could be on display somewhere.

All ideas welcome, and thanks in advance for your help!

I inherited the dress because I'm the only family member short enough to possibly wear it, and my great aunt intended for one of us to sell it to help pay for our own wedding. I plan on honoring her by wearing some of her jewelry.

My suggestion would have been eBay but try some stores that buy use clothing or sell it to a antique appraiser.

Why would you want to sell a dress that has been in your family for that long? You could save it for your daughter or yourself just for the sake of having it because you are not going to find anything else like it. It's possible that the dress has a very good history behind it.

We, the people of today, are in such a rush that we don't know (and some don't care) anything about our heritage, and that dress is a link to yours. There are things that were done to survive, like growing and canning foods and making our own clothes, that are not done any more because we, the people of today, are in too big of a rush. So a part of us dies. You have a part of your heritage, keep it. If you want to show it, frame it or something, but don't get rid of it just because it doesn't fit.

You could see if someone else in the family would like to have it but then again they may sell it. I am not one for keeping things that will never be used so I would try some antique shops or vintage clothing shops or ebay. I bet it is beautiful but I know everyones tastes are different.
