Vicoprofen and Vicodin have the same narcotic analgesic in them, Hydrocodone. The Vicoprofen is stronger only because the amount of Hydrocodone is higher. Vicodin has Tylenol as well, Vicoprofen has Ibuprophen (Advil). Other than that, they are exactly the same.

Its like this, Vicoprofen has 7.5 mg of Hydrocodone, and 200 mg Ibuprofen (you know, Motrin). So, if the doc give you Vicoden ES (which is 7.5 mg Hydrocodone and 750 mg acetaminophen) its the same. But I prefer Vicoprofen cuz it not only helps with the pain, but the Ibuprofen also assists with the inflammation. Plus all that acetaminophen wreaks havoc on your liver. Now if your becoming tolerant of Hydrocodone, thats a different story. You've got to ask for the big boys now (Percocet, Oxycontin, Dilaudid, etc). Hope that helps.
