No, generally speaking Aleve won't do much for Fibromyalgia pain. Aleve is an anti-inflammatory, and FM pain isn't really due to inflammation so it probably won't help her much.

She should talk to her doctor about something for pain management - long term management with fibro usually means lifestyle changes - more exercise (gentle stuff like stretching, yoga, swimming, etc) sometimes a stronger pain med for flares and really tough pain, and also sometimes a muscle relaxant. Many fibro patients also take antidepressants, some of which have been shown to help control chronic pain.
If her current doctor is uniformed about fibromyalgia (soooo many are) then she should shop around for a better one who is better able to treat her.

There is a dosage amount on the bottle of Aleve, That is the amount that she would take. She wouldn't take anymore just because she has fibromyalgia.

But for me with having fibromyalgia, Tylenol works better but I know that it is different for everybody. If you already have aleve, please try that. Just don't go out and buying new things because somebody else says it works for them. Try what you have at home first. And see if it helps. Follow the direction's on the bottle/package as directed.

Show patience and compassion. Be understanding. My wife is 47 years old and has had fibromyalgia for about 7 years. Many days she has no strength what so ever. Try to assist in any way possible when she is unable to do certain things around the home. Show support, very important. Find a good kinesiology/chiropractor. The medicines for the disease have as many problems and side effects as they have results. Better to do small exercises, keep the faith in the relationship. Best advice I can give you as one who deals with the disease every day. My wife is a veterinarian and works 4 1/2 days per week so it does limit capability in the job.

Since everybodys system is unique as is their reaction to medication she simply needs to take some Aleve and see if it works for her-whether or not it helps would also depend on the severity of her condition if it helps fine if not have her try Ibuprofen-comes in 200mg over the counter medication and OK to take 600mg-3pills a day. I,fortunately do not have this condition but from what I've read and heard from people who o the condition is very painful and most are not helped by over the counter medications. I;m suprised her doctor did not prescribe a pain medication for her. This is not yet on the market but will be soon and according to this website helps Fibro...and the sleeproblem that comes with it www.immunesupport.com the drug is LYRICA.she shoudl inform her doctor and pharmacist to inform when availabe for sounds like it'll help a lot with this condition.Am not finding specific drugs that are used for this condition although they say exercise, acupuncture do should do a search under what helps the pain of fibr....Check out www.arthritis.about.com which does list pain meds used with over the counter aceteminophen, ibuprofen, prescription is Tramadol although in time this can be habit forming it also says that antidepressants and has a list of them are the most helpful. Wish her success in finding relief CHOW!

Pain is a symptom. Aleve relieves pain and inflammation as a result of arthritis, fibromylagia and related disorders.

My mom has it, and NOTHING helps her symptoms, in fact, she is on disability b/c her pain is so bad. I am sorry your g/f has to deal with this. It's rough. I wish I could help more, but from my moms experience, not much works. She could try a prescription pain medicine, but it may not work.
