I would pick a BMW, because ounce for ounce you can't match the driving enthusiasm they create for the driver. My dad has owned several and I've driven all of them. They are very exciting cars to drive and be seen in. Also they are chic, precision engineered, have nice exteriors as well as interiors and classy. They tell people you have class, even if you don't.

A systems analyst friend of mine who in the 1990's rolled down an embankment in his his BMW 500 series and walked away with a scratch, vowed he would never own anything else after that. They are built pretty safely.

Mercedes are built like bank vaults and feel like it too. Ewww. In recent years they have been one of the most unreliable brands of cars you can buy. They are also extremely overpriced. A millionaire friend of mine had an $85,000 Mercedes, and later told me, "Gawd! what junk, I thought I was buying quality." He had the car for one year before he went back and yelled at the dealer. He traded it in for a Lexus and couldn't be happier. He won't own anything else but a Lexus now.

Audi's are way overpriced and have reliability problems. BMW is the most reliable of the three you mentioned

BMW's also come with an exclusive lifetime maintenance plans, so the claims of worrying about them being unreliable may be moot. Hands down.... BMW wins this "fight" without even thinking about it.

Mercedes historically is the most relaible and hold their value the same as a BMW. I had an Audi and although I liked it more than the other 2, it was unreliable and lost value more quickly. It really depends on what you want it for. Are you keeping it for a long time or trading it in after 3 years? Go to MSN Autos and read reviews from people who actually own the cars you are looking at. Then go to www.consumerreports.com and see how it rated in reliability.

BMW is the most sporty. Mercedes gives more class. The problem of Audi, at least in Europe they are overpriced.
