I saw it on a show on HGTV. They put a clear coat of a primer and it was kinda so the paint would adhear to the dresser(my cabinets have the same finish as the dresser) couldn't find what they were talking about, please assist, thanks.

No, it was a primer and then they stained it, it's on their website, but it only gives you a buyers reference of benjamine moore, but dosen't list the product name.

I did this using minwax polyshades. You don't have to strip or sand first. Just brush it on with a good brush. It has a sealer built in. It comes in alot of wood tone colors & several sheens. You can get it at lowe's & home depot. Walmart carries it, but you can find a better selection of colors at the other two. It runs around $7-$8. a qt.

It probably wasn't stain it was probably paint. They make a paint that comes in a kit that looks like wood when you apply it, it's used for metal doors when you want them to look like wood.
