I just bought my wedding dress. It has a train which I really didn't want mainly because I didn't want to carry it around all through the reception. They told me that that they will add hooks so that you can pin it up after the ceremony. Does this work well and will it look ok?

Oh Yes, it would look fine. I had to get one on mine, and glad I did. As it was heavy and I couldn't imagine carrying with it all during the wedding and dancing, it was great! Plus, being at the reception, it is usually a celebration, and you will be on everyone eyes, and believe me, they are not looking at the dress, as that is in the church, to give it all, they are help celebrating you and your Brand new Husband, how much love you are both in.

Remember you want to have a good time, also. All the weddings I have been in or talking with other brides to be, they all stated they were glad they got that hook put in, as some they tried to just carry it, but then they had they hooked it up, and they said it was much better to enjoy their special day!

Enjoy Relax, and Congrats!

yes it is called a bussel and it works out fine. You can even have it up at the ceremony if you don't want the train. Makes your dress puffier but in a nice way. Make sure you have a couple people with you when they seemstress shows you where they are and how to do it. We had the hardest time finding a couple of the hooks because they were so small and there was so much dress.

I'm in the same boat. I just feel in love with my dress, every part except the train. I plan on having it cut off. Everyone keeps telling me "no, you don't want to do that, just have it bustled for the reception". Well, I'm having it cut off. I personally don't like the way a bustle looks and I don't want to trip over in during the ceremony. If you don't want a train, have it cut off. If you don't, if you do what everyone else wants you too, in the end you wont be happy. Good Luck!

If it is done properly it can look great. I just bought a wedding dress myself, and they actually showed me how the bustle (I may be spelling it wrong) would look, and it is very cute. You can have the maid of honor bustle it up right after the ceremony if you want or even before it all if you really don't want the train.

It's called Bustling and yes it works. It basically just pulls up the dress in kind of bunches at the back so that it doesn't drag anymore. Granted it's not as flattering as a dress without it, but it works for a dress that you couldn't get without the train.
It can be a little hard to do, so i'd suggest that you'd have someone that knows how to do it or someone that you can have the dress maker show how to do it after your pictures are taken. Maybe your mom or your maid of honor.

i always said i didn't want a train, but guess what - fell in love with a dress that had a shorter length train.

tying up the back was really easy for the reception. i had three loops and it just came up a little. no worries about dragging the dress on the floor. my bridesmaids were really good at getting the train up.

oh and it looked good too - it didn't look all bunched up or add any bulk to the backside.

Congrats to you! I have bought a amazaing dress with a beautiful train! If you don't like the train... maybe it's not the right train! Of course maybe a train is not for you...
I did know I wanted a train, but tried on many dresses, I DID find the ONE. The bustle is great. Best of luck, don't give up until you KNOW, this really does happen.

My dress has a train and I really didn't want it either. I got the hooks for the bustle and it looked fine. Most brides do that after the ceremony, so it will look fine.

it's called a bustle, their are different types. Mine had a french bustle already in it and yea, their are hidden hooks and it will just sorta fold up and hook inside the dress and then I won't have to deal with it at the reception. It looks pretty, kinda full, but pretty, and its way more functional, get them to show you what it would look like....its way easier than having to carry it!

Of course it will look okay. It will actually look very pretty...it's called bustling the train. You can have a traditional bustle or and under-bustle, depending on your taste. You never carry trains around at a reception anymore.
