In the uni holidays I ran into this chick I am into who is in some of my classes. I was with my mum and sister at the time. When I came back to uni we got chatting and then she asked me if the girl I was with was my sister. Do you think the only reason she asked me this was because she was subtley trying to find out if I had a gf and she is interested in me? Or don't you think I should put too much emphasis on it. But why would she ask me that? Am I in?

She may have been asking out of curiosity, or maybe she IS interested in you and wanted to know if you had a girlfriend.
I'd say that the best way for you to find out would be to get to know her better. Next time you see her around, ask her to get coffee with you or something similar; maybe to study (you ARE in some of her classes, so that's usually a good ice-breaker).

Could be for a ton of reasons. Simple curiosity, small talk, interest in you. Don't stress something like that too much. It's ok to think about it a little. If you're interested in her, you might find it to your advantage to probe further and see if she has a shared interest.

she probably wanted to see if you have a gf., or maybe you and your sister resemble. i would not put too much into it she might have been making conversation.

maybe she likes your sister?... if she just asked that question and nothing else, then maybe she's interested in you... or that somebody asked her to ask you if she is your sister... do you like that girl? then ask her out, and laid your fears to rest!
