That will greatly depend on weather or not your on the northern or southern hemisphere. If your northern you should orient your house so the south side has the largest solar collectivity capabilities. Use windows for passive heat collection and panels for energy collection. In the southern orient your house to the north. During the day open the blinds and let the sun warm as much surface as you can but close them as soon as you notice the sun is not directly warming maximum surface area. In the summer keep blinds closed during the day to reflect as much heat as you can back out to the atmosphere. Open them at night(after the sun goes down) to allow the house to radiate its heat out. You don't have to leave them open all night. In fact I recommend that you don't as it may invite other problems not heat related.
