its a skill, some people major/minor in it. i think someone would expect to be paid a little extra if they took a class in something to be a better employee. classes such as cpr, first aid, special education, typing classes, computer science, microsoft training, etc. its just like anything else. lets not get all defensive with the question either and make it all about minorites and affirmative action. anyone who has an extra skill should get paid for it. anyone! no need to throw around harsh words or anything.

Anyone that is bi-lingual or multi-lingual SHOULD expect an increase in pay as apposed to the ones that are either too ignorant, lazy or intentionally uncultured regardless of what language(s) they speak. I say this simply due to the fact that they took the extra step to go above and beyond their co-workers, peers, etc... Think about it for a moment. Due to the fact that the United States is focused mainly on the Hispanic race currently, the topic of Spanish is brought up. "Why not French? German? Russian? Latin? Ebonics? LOL Shall I go on? I'm multi-lingual and EXTREMELY proud of it. I've studied for several years to achieve this goal. I was born and raised in the states I might add. I'm certain that unless someone has a legitimate medical diagnosis that indicates a learning disability, anyone can learn a foreign language to excel in their career. The sad but true trait of what we call "Americans" is that most of the populations would rather take more time whining and moaning about foreigners that take the time to catch up with the rest of the world. So, the answer to the question I feel is thus..I applaud them for having the courage to leave their "comfort zone" and climbing the "ladder" at a greater speed than the ones that have lived in the land of the free their entire life.
If anyone that reads this finds this offensive...I do apologize though I do feel pity for you and the solitude that you live in. Go out and explore the world and then respond to the question. {^_^}

I couldn't say it any better than Haleiwa Bound. Learning spanish isn't high on my list, I don't want to talk to people who can't speak English when in my country anyway.

Where's your proof? "way more?" I highly doubt it

We work with many executives that make lots of money and they don't speak Spanish. What person do you know that makes over $4 million each year and doesn't speak Spanish. BTW, his BONUS is over $1 million each year.

it pisses me off, but i guess when you think about it, other countries are probably the same in the tourist areas. Everyone has tourists from other countries come to visit their countries. But the difference here is that those are for tourists. When we hire people to speak spanish it is because they are too dang lazy to learn english!!

People who know rocket science make way more than people who don't. If your skills are valuable, you're paid for them. If it bothers you, maybe you should try to learn the language. Just a suggestion, not a criticism.
