Send an invitation letter addressed to the US embassy in Nigeria and copy to your friend. Ask him to submit the invitation letter along with the relevant application form to the embassy. It will ease the procedures.

Cheers.

Hi -- the requirement of an "invitation letter" as a prerequisite to visa issuance is a myth -- the law says nothing about one, and most consular officers (wisely) disregard it as a fairly unhelpful indicator of a person's likelihood of returning to their home country after a brief visit.

The law that is the main issue for most non-immigrant visa applicants is section 214b of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which presumes that all applicants for a non-immigrant visa are actually intending immigrants. I.e. Jane may SAY she just wants to go to Disneyworld for a week, but she's going to have to demonstrate that her situation in her home country is so stable and attractive that she wouldn't consider staying illegally in the U.S.

Given the tens of millions who have either overstayed visas or just plain crossed the border, this is a reasonable law to have.

So, your friend from Largo (do you mean "Lagos"?) is going to have to convince a consular officer that he has a very good situation in Nigeria -- a good job, his own home, etc -- in order to get a visa. This won't be easy, given Nigeria's condition and the uh, reputation Nigerians have throughout the world. Good luck to both of you!

You do not have to file in anything but you have to send him/her an "invitation letter". In this letter you have to mention that you will be full responisble for him/her regarding accomodation, healthcare, plane tickets etc.. You have to mail the "invitation letter' to your friend and he/she has to present this applying for the visa.

Hi, you would need to fill out an invitation form to file for him and they will check your records, such as income, housing, marital status, etc... Good luck to you !
