I want to start going to the gym, but I can only go in the afternoons around 6:00pm. I just wanted to know is it better that I eat before or after and does it affect my workout?

You probably want to eat something light that will give you energy before you work out. Depending on the type of workout and what your goals are will determine how much you eat after your workout. If you are into body building (anabolic), you will want to have a large meal with lots of protein like eggs and meat); with cardiovascular (like catabolic), you will want to eat more salads, and lighter meals.

I`ve been told you should not eat after 700 pm, but if you must eat later than 7pm you should have something light, example: soup, salad, fish and vegetables, chicken breast by itself or even tuna and a glass or water or Vitamin water. No pasta, potatoes, rice or bread or cakes. Don`t eat to be full or uncomfortable. Just eat enough to curb your hunger, if you are going to eat late.

eat before so you have real energy to work out with, but don't eat so much you feel stuffed.
