commitment ceremonies are not recognized by the state or churches as an official wedding. Means the 2 people pledge to be with each other but for taxes purposes, state records and churches( or in the eyes of God) they are not legally or truely married.
Usually gay and lesbain couples get these kinda ceremonies cause they can't get married.
I hope i could help.

It's what two people do if they are either living in some part of medival America where homosexual marriage is not accepted or if they don't want to register their marriage with the government for whatever reason. As for it not being a really marriage, that's bunk. Commitment ceremones are simply unregistered weddings and are often recognised by the church.

commitment ceremonies are for gay/lesbian couples...they can't legaly marry and have a weddng, so its sorta their version of getting married. its essentially the same thing, they ussually follow the same traditions, its just not called a wedding because it can't legally be a wedding, but essenitally they are commiting their lives to each other very much like couples do in a wedding.....

The prick wore the expensive suit that I bought him to the ceremony as well...
