I seperated from the USAF (active duty - 9 years) in 1995 - Honorable under SSB. I had someone ask me if I would consider joining the USAFR. Does anyone know if I can? What is the max. age limit for prior service? I thought I found 29 yrs. old but he says 42? Also, I am a disabled vet would going into the reserves effect this?

You need your RE code. If your giving us partial information or a parital number here, an RE-3S means sole surviving son. I don't think this is what your DD 214 probably says. On the bottom of page 1 of your DD 214, not your page 4 it will have your RE code in a block. Find the block and the full code inside of it. It will be RE...something. That is the code you need. If it is RE-4 it means you can't get back into anything. If you have an RE-3 code you just need to prove that what every you got kicked out for is no longer a problem for you medically. Then they will consider taking you back into the military.

If you're disabled, you may not be able to pass the enlistment physical to get back in, because you've had a break in service. Since you're prior service it probably is 42 to get in. 3S is not a common DD214 code. I'm not sure what it means, b/c there are so many. IJ is the most common and it allows someone to reenter the service. At any rate, good luck!

From the source I found, 3 means you have "obstacles to overcome". Ask the USAF or USAFR.
