Because the Middle East has not separated Politics from Religion I'm afraid. Religion IS politics or has been ever since the council of Nicea.

Because it is also religious. The groups fighting in the middle east are split, in large part, over religious differences. Those differences, by definition, would not exist if the religions involved did not exist. Admittedly, politics are also involved, but the leaders are using religion to make the political situation worse. Again, take out the religion and you solve a great deal of the problem.

It may manifest itself as political strife, however religion is at it's root. Since the beginning, the Middle East has been a mess with conflict. If I remember correctly it started with Abraham's sons, one legitimate and one the product of a union that did not glorify God. One son was the forefather of the Israelites and the other Ishmael was the forefather of the race of people who throughout history have been at war with the Jewish people. So I guess in a way the anti-theists are right.
God Bless!

Anti-theists would blame religion for anything that they do not like happening in this world and do not how to stop those from happening. Any thing that happens good, they credit Man and Science for such good things. The childish behavior is very common among adults. If I succeed it is because of my competence, hard work and talents. If I fail some one else to be blamed. If Man fails to stop conflicts, it is not failure of Man (because amidst conflict continuing, some men are awarded Nobel Peace Prize). The failure is because of religion. Why is it that religions continues to exist and our economic and social conflicts are turned into religious conflicts. Who gains? The religions? No. The Mankind. Politics is supposed to solve conflicts. Politicians seldom succeed in solving conflicts. When they fail they make religion the scapegoat.. Even Id Amin and Saddam sought religion to help them continue with their kingdoms.

Everything has base - not necessarily physical. Assumptions in math are 'bases', a starting point we can use to explore controls and extremes.
The reason they blame religion is because it is one of the 'bases'
They say history makes the fabric of who we are; and there are more books on religion than on politics as far as the middle east is concerned.
Then again, it can be a 'smear campaign.'

I'm not anti-theist so I'll make it very simple. It was when President Bush explained that God instructed him to go to war. Now, if you are a Muslim who already feels oppressed in the Middle East (or Israeli) wouldn't you feel that a Christian had declared war on you and not a nation? I'd say the lines were blurred from the beginning.

It kinda is religous,
The terrorist thought that crashing a plane was a Jihad (means holy war to musilms)
on the other side of the story, a lot of the people in the middle east, aren't told the entire story. Here in america, a lot of people see the war as pointless so we want to end it, but in the middle east, the government doesn't tell the entire story so they want to keep fighting.

Yes, it's political. And religion has an extremely strong effect on politics.

Because they have other problems which are contributing in no small way to the political ones - problems like descrimination, oppression of women, and lack of free speech laws.
