Sheepishly smile and wave anyway. Unless I don't know the person- then I look relieved I'm sure since I don't have to try to remember where I might have met them. :D

I was walking down the street one time (it was raining). This car pulls up to the light and this really hot guy looks out the window and waves at me. I got all excited and waved back at him so enthusiastically. I couldn't believe this really cut guy was waving at me. Turns out he was just wiping the fog off his window. Talk about embarrassing.
The light turned green.

omg, I just did this Saturday night lol. It IS embarassing, but easy to overcome if you don't know the person. In this case, it was someone I knew, and he was waving to a person who was near me (froma across the bar) that he was supposed to be meeting up with. When I talked to him later, I just told him that I didn't know that he was there until I saw him wave, and that's why I waved (b/c it was true...I didn't know he was there til he waved) lol.

Yeah, once or twice, but now I make it a habit to non-shalantly (sp?) look behind me and assess the situation. If no one is acknowledging, then I focus on the waiver---then act like I see them in order to respond accordingly. It also gives you time to think if you even want to respond at all, or merely give them a blank look and make them feel stupid.

Yep, I wave then they look at me and function the "who the hell are you?" look on there face. Then I pretend to be waving to somebody else or attempt to look as though i replace into going to scratch my head or save the solar out of my eyes lol.

Oh, that's so embaressing! I try and play it off like I'm talking to someone behind them. And when they turn to look, I walk away with the quickness.

Take it as one of those lessons in life. Don't wave to someone you don't know. When you are in a toilet cubicle, don't answer when someone says "hello", they might be on their cellphone.
