I haven't heard any crazy stories, but the first time I was called, I got out of it by accident. I had gotten married and moved 5 1/2 hrs away from my family. My mom called me one day to say she received a letter for jury duty for me. Of course, it was in my maiden name and living so far away, I didn't know about it until after the date passed. They excused me. The second time, I had two small children and twins on the way. I showed up for it, but they said I could be excused.

I think "getting out of jury duty" is about as un-American as you can get. People who do are deadbeats. If everyone thought that way, our trial-by-jury system would soon disappear.

I watch the losers when I have been called. The pitiful excuses - so transparent....it is disgusting. Those who use lies and other strategies to duck their duty as a citizen probably don't have the intelligence to make a decision anyway.

Why would anyone want to get out of it? This is part of our civic duty, isn't it?

We live in a free country, and we do have responsibilities, like voting and jury duty that is expected of us.

I served 3 terms, so far. Husband did, twice.

I get tossed every time now. My brother was murdered so I am a big advocate of capital punishment. I am Mormon so the defense excuses me for being too strict. I read at least a couple of hours of news today - I know all about the case before I get there. I have several friends who are attorneys & judges - can't serve on any of their trials & many of the others have gone to dinner parties with me.
You would think I had the plague they excuse me so fast.
I did tell one attorney I thought the death penalty was used enough & he said "you are excused" immediately. It was a rape case.
I think it is a civic duty to serve but they say no.

When I was serving on Jury Duty they had the guy that told the Judge when he was asking us about how we felt about the court system. He said If they weren't guilty they wouldn't of been up here. The judge dismissed him on the spot.

it's fairly simple to get out of it...there are options and w/ imagination it's not too hard.....I actually tried to volunteer for jury duty coz it was a paid time from work under my contract...when I called the court it confused them coz no one had ever asked to be on a jury...so...no luck, back to work..
that is absolutely true...so I called my dentist and had 2 wisdom teeth pulled....that worked!! Plus I got some good legal drugs...all in a life!!(also very true)
