Wow that is painful. There are so many things on the market that answerer's have supplied and they all work well. The old fashioned remedy was keeping Vaseline on your lips at all times. Cheap and easy. It just need to be kept lubricated.

The cold sore...ouch. I get them all the time. They are caused by cracking but they can also be caused by a virus. They take time to heal but you can now buy Abrevia which speeds up the healing time.

Good luck.

1. Stop licking them. It only makes the problem worse.

2. Drink more water. Dry lips is a sign of mild dehydration.

3. Vaseline is your best bet for getting soft lips back. Then use whatever chapstick you like daily. Bath and Body works has some really good stuff.

4. If they are flaky, use a lip exfoliator to get rid of the dry skin. Wait until your sores heal to do that, though, or it will burn like fire.

5. Stay away from burning agents like vinegar based products (pickles, ketchup) and pepper until your lips feel better.

6. Again, drink more water & stop licking. Good luck.

Go to your local drug store and get some Herpecin-L lip protectant. No, you don't have herpes but it really helps sore, cracked lips. Otherwise you should try Blistex Silk and Shine. Even in the wintertime it helps keep my lips from getting dry, but you need to use it a couple times a day. I'm not prescribing, merely telling you what works for me.

When you lick your lips, the moisture evaporates and makes your lips more dry, then they crack. Try to get out of that habit.

First of all, you should probably stop licking your lips. Then, try a product for cold sores. That may seem weird, but they're really tough, and they should get rid what sounds like a case of extremely chapped lips.

Sounds like the first sign of dehydration. You need to drink more water. Drink something with electrolytes like Gatorade if you prefer. Vaseline or petroleum jelly should help. But definitely rehydrate!

Have you tried "Blistex"? Any lip balm should help. Can get either across the counter.

Use Carmex all the time, even before you go to sleep, too.

Use chapstick. It really works good, but you have to buy the chapstick brand.
