Because it has born itself out to be true.
Many of the prophecies have come to pass.
(And those that have not, are not precluded from ever being fulfilled.)
But the prophecies in the Old Testament concerning the Messiah point to odds that are beyond astronomical that any one person could fulfill them.
The odds that Jesus could have fulfilled only 8 of them are in the millions to 1. That he fulfilled hundreds, creates odds that are impossible. Yet, Jesus fulfilled every single one.

Several times, it could have been destroyed. It's still here. It has to be divine,
8. I can go on all night without getting too religious about it's authenticity, but I'll stop here.

The Bible's accuracy and reliability have been proved and verified over and over again by archaeological finds produced by both believing and no believing scholars and scientists. This included verification for numerous customs, places, names, and events mentioned in the Bible.
One among many examples is the fact that for many years the existence of the Hittites (a powerful people who lived during the time of Abraham) was questioned because no archaeological digs had uncovered anything about them. Critics claimed the Hittites were pure myth. But today the critics are silenced. Abundant archaeological evidence for the existence of the Hittites during the time of Abraham has been uncovered.
Bible scholar Donald J. Wiseman notes, "The geography of Bible lands and visible remains of antiquity were gradually recorded until today more than 23,000 sites within this region and dating to Old Testament times, in their broadest sense, have been located." Nelson Glueck, a specialist in ancient literature, did an exhaustive study and concluded: "It can be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverter a biblical reference." Well-known scholar William F. Albright, following a comprehensive studies, wrote: "Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of innumerable details, and has brought increased recognition of the value of the Bible as a source of History."
There are more than 24,000 partial and complete manuscript copies of the New Testament. These manuscript copies are very ancient and they are available for inspection NOW. there are also some 86,000 quotations from the early church fathers and several thousand lectionaries (church-service books containing Scripture quotations used in the early centuries of Christianity). In fact, there are enough quotations from the early church fathers that even if we did not have a single copy of the Bible, scholars could still reconstruct all but 11 verses of the entire New Testament from material written within 150 to 200 years from the time of Christ. Bottom line: The New Testament has an overwhelming amount of evidence supporting its reliability.

Millions of people all over the world have experienced changed lives after believing what the Bible says, and have been delivered from alcoholism, drug addiction, and immoral lifestyles. I personally know some of these people. I have experienced what some call the Spirit baptism and it is very real.
Another thing, early Christians were tortured and killed for their belief; why would they refuse to recant for something they made up?
Also many archeological discoveries have proved that places in the Bible once thought to be fictional did really exist.

The Holy Bible is full of the Power of God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. If you have been Saved and the Holy Spirit living in you, the Holy Spirit will reveal the Truth and Spirit to you as you read. It occurs all the time when I read or Pray or Sing Praises to His Holy Name.
O I want to see Him, Look upon His face.
There to sing forever of His Amazing Grace
On the streets of Glory let me lift my voice,
cares all past, home at last, ever to Rejoice.
Praise God, Praise God.
I don't know about you but I am Having Church Over Here. Praise God
If you do not feel His Spirit. I Pray that you will very soon.

Some say that the Bible is nothing more than fairy tales. But this cannot be for it contains great wisdom and truth and it has been verified throughout history as being accurate. Its historical accounts are flawlessly accurate. In fact, archaeology routinely demonstrates the accuracy of the biblical records concerning locations and events recorded in the Bible.
The Bible is true.........Peace.

They believe it because they are DESPERATE to believe in something that is bigger than they are and it gives it to them in spades.
The sad part is they don't realize that they must give up their ability to reason in order to believe it. Some, of course, never had that ability and they'll be the first to believe. The rest will mentally create all sort of reasons and contrivances in order to maintain that belief in the face of science's ever increasing understanding of verifiable reality. But they maintain that their religion and their book is true, but the thing is that ALL religious people using MANY different 'Holy' books feel the same way. They can't all be true. So something else must be the truth. I say it is what science says it is. It has facts backed up with evidence. Science is what has made our lives better. Not faith. Faith has given us nothing but petty fighting over 'holy' books and unverifiable suppositions and beliefs that contradict the evidence that we find in nature.

THAT is the question. You were told it was God's word, and in spite of reading it, you swallowed. I don't care how old it is, that's not proof of anything. It says God created billions of souls knowing in advance he will send to eternal torment. That is insane. Even a small child can see that's not the behavior of a "Supreme Being." It's got you in a catch-22, where if you think objectively about it, you sin. Doesn't any of that sound stupid and ungodly to you? A jealous God? That is an oxymoron. Demand a better class of diety. There is truth in the bible, but just like you trust yourself to pick it out as completely true, I have to trust myself to embrace what truth I can recognize in it, and not be spiritually crippled with disappointment that some of it is nonsense. Will you worship a being who would damn me for that?
