I was not a heavy smoker and the gum really helped. also, know that it is OK to want a cigarette, just dont have one. complain all you want, just dont light up.

delay lighting up as long as possible- ill just wait 5 min, 10 min, then soon you forget. distract yoursel. sunflower seeds. worry beads, clean out all ashtrays, pick up all butts laying around, wash out the smell in clothing, hang clothes outside or use febreeze. only let yourself smoke in an uncomfortable place- like outside if it is cold, not in your car. focus on the positive. take deep breaths. exercise. call a friend. join a support group. visualize your lungs getting pink and healthy. need i go on? GOOD LUCK

I quit smoking in July of 2006, and started back up in November. I eventually started using Wellbutrin (same thing as Zyban) and I quit again within 4 days of starting the meds. I have not had one cigarette since (it's been 3 months) and I have ZERO cravings for them. I wouldn't recommend Wellbutrin only because it ended up giving me bad anxiety and hives and itching like crazy... but you can always try it. I took the Wellbutrin for depression, which it didn't help, but I completely quit smoking. The first time I quit was cold turkey, and I wanted to kick everyone in the world's butt. Call your doc first to see what your options are. Otherwise I'd try the gum or patch. GOOD LUCK... YOU CAN DO IT.

I stopped smoking by placing my cigarettes in my vehicle where I had to go to the car to get one. It reduced my smoking from 2 packs a day to about 10 cigarettes after a few months I took the leap and quit completely. Recently my wife has approached it from a slighty different perspective. She has determined the times of day she most desires a smoke and started by limiting herself to 6 cigarettes per day. After 2 months she dropped it to 5. After she gets use to five she will drop it again unitl it reaches the point whre she needs none.

if you can get past the morning cigarette then you are set. try sunflower seeds. Sometimes it is the repetitive motion people are addicted to. Sunflower seeds can help in that case. Try smoking a fake cigarette every once in a while. Like put a straw to your mouth and close you eyes and imagine you are smoking. It seems really stupid but when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter someone told me to do that. I felt really stupid but when I was alone I was desperate and tried it. If you have a vivid imagination then it will work.

There are several products on the market you can use to help with kicking the habit. If you are going cold turkey that can be hard but it can be done.

I would suggest using something like a patch or a medication that will help you control your urges and help with the dreaded side effects. I have heard there are several medications and patches that will make the cigarette so disgusting that you will almost get sick to your stomach if you smoke.

You can do it and good luck

I had to come up with a 'replacement activity'...something that you could do when you REALLY wanted a smoke that would replace said smoke. I would drink a half of a bottle of water and put on my really minty lip gloss (foolish now, I know, but it worked). You just have to come up with a reasonable replacement. I had to pee so often, I finally had to replace THAT activity, too! Good Luck!

This worked for me and several others I suggested it to.....Get a small squeeze bottle, like an empty eye drop bottle...Fill it with Vicks 44D. Keep it in your pocket and when you want a cigarette, put a drop or two on your tongue, the taste (Very Strong) will stay with you for a while and remind you that you really don't want a cigarette. Try it, it really works......Nuf Said
