I agree, it's nuts. Perhaps some are striving for attention, but I think a lot of them are actually convinced that they are filled with the Spirit and that they are being brought closer to God.
I'm gonna give you a scripture as an inter-theological explanation: 1 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. (I Corinthians 13)
Speaking in tongues is a gift to communicate with others, to spread the gospel... not within yourself. The fact of the matter is that natural language has 3 things that I'm going to emphasize: 1) phonological constraints (not just a random bunch of gobbledegook) 2) grammar (understanding of what's said and ability to dissect it, explain it, and know that logic exists consistently within it) 3) sociability (it has to be a real language, understood by someone else to be of any good to God or anyone else for that matter).
So the answer to your first question: No, I don't. I talk in English. Some people at my church try to talk in King James English, but even that perturbs my understanding. It's like the Ethiopian Eunich who tried to read the scriptures but couldn't understand them because they were in an archaic prose, what good is written or spoken communication to anyone if it isn't current?

Speaking in tongues in nowhere presented as something all Christians should expect when they receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and are therefore baptized in the Holy Spirit. In fact, out of all the conversion accounts in the New Testament, only two record speaking in tongues in that context. Tongues was a miraculous gift that had a specific purpose for a specific time. It was not, and never has been, the evidence of the reception of the Holy Spirit.

Yes I do! It's not crazy! If you have a bible read in acts! It talks about the Holy Spirit! the Holy Spirit is what gives us those words! And were not speaking to each other! It's like our Love song to God! And when I speak in toungs I don't even know what I'm saying!

We don't at my Baptist church. It is my understanding when the apostles spoke in tongues, it was so that everyone could understand what they were saying, sort of like an interpreter. I think Assembly of God churches speak in tongues

alot of things that people do in church like praise and worship and speaking in toungues and so on....i think alot of people do this just to show off or get attention and ill tell you why...Jesus said "you will know good people by their fruits" and also jesus saying that a wolf will dress up in sheeps clothing...the sheeps clothing is a mask that christians put on they put on this fake personaity when they walk into church so they can get attention and this is because they are really lonely and are afraid too and they express this fear by putting on a mask and putting on a holy than thou attitude....and it real easy to tell this...again by their fruits you will know them how do they treat you if you have a different in opiniion in the bible? do they treat other good just because they are popular or look good? do they good listeneers?

No I do not.
Tongues are for a sign to unbelievers.
Not to believers.
In church don't you think it is a gathering of believers.
Why speak in the church?
NO.
1 Cor 14:22 So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers, but to those who believe.
So then what is it for?
1 Cor 14:2 For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.
Speak to who?
God.
Perhaps the gift is misused.

I agree with you 100%. It is crazy. No one talks in tongues as they were done in the Bible to day. In the Bible people spoke in languages that they had never learned. That just doesn't happen today, and if anyone says it does then it should be easy to prove, they just have to do it.

Yes they think a gift from God. They work their self into a self induced Orgasmic sexual frenzy and are out of control of their emotional facilities. It is the way they download their frustrations and relieve themselves of daily pressures that have built up over the past week.

Dear friend,
the gift of tongues is a gift of the holy spirit. It is a gift from God. People may abuse it, misuse it. People may laugh at it, ridicule it. Doesn't change the fact that it is a gift from God and therefore very precious.
I would suggest you investigate more before dismissing it as "crazy".
god bless
