Ok, I was at a Carl's Junior drive-thru today. I placed my order and when I drove up to the window, the woman working there had the BIGGEST Herpes bump on her upper lip (I mean it looked puss-filled and read). I TOTALLY lost my appetite and I got very nervous and shaky. I didn't want her to touch my food or give me any change back, from her hand. I guess I just thought that she may have been touching her sore all day... So, I canceled the order and told her I didn't have enough money afterall. I did says sorry for the inconvenience though and I drove away. Do you think she knew why I cancelled?? Do you think that was rude how I handled it? HONESTLY, I'm not a mean person, but her outbreak looked soooooooo gross. I'm one of those people who naturally have a queezy stomach and just the thought of certain things or certain smells etc... will make me gag.

Personally, I think that I would have done the same thing. I think that the manager should have had her stay home or put a band aide on it. Open sores and food service DO NOT mix!
I think you handled it well. Some people might have screamed.

Herpes or not, you did nothing wrong. If a person has a huge gross bump on their face or elsewhere they should not be working in customer service most of all not the food service. She should have called in sick or taken cleaning duty. You had every right to cancel your order. You don't know what she had and you certainly have the right to not want to catch it.

In high school I worked as a "short order cook" aka: fast food person, and health codes(at least in IL) require ANYONE with open sores to wear a band aid over them (and gloves if it's on the hands. even when they're not handling food directly). I know it's hard to wear a bandaid on your lip, but c'mon, that't gross. I think you did the right thing. As long as you weren't rude, making fun or her, etc. You have every right to protect your health if you really beleived it was at risk.

How do you know it was a "herpes bump?" I've burned my lip on pizza when the cheese dripped and landed on my lip. It turned into a blister-like sore. When I first got braces, and still wasn't used to them yet, I don't know how I did this, but i cut my lip on it, and it swelled up like a sore. I'm just saying this b/c you never know unless you ask. As for your reaction, by the way you described it, it sounds like you did it politely. If you were rude, you probably would have pointed it out to her and made a comment or 2.

It sounds to me like you handled it well. I had to do something like that once when I went to a Baskin Robbins and the girl behind the counter sneezed into a rag that she then wiped the counter with. Don't feel bad about it, I would have done the same thing. Why risk a herpes infection?

i ought to consider lots of the different respondants - you should no longer enable your very own life impact your paintings. the shopper does not understand what's happening on your very own life and, somewhat frankly, does not care. He/she merely needs sturdy and well mannered provider. As you're interior the provider industry (besides the fact which you do no longer say what you do), in line with possibility you're able to have asked your supervisor to aid you paintings removed from consumers. i'm particular they might quite have accomplished that then acquire proceedings from consumers. try this next time you sense low - your supervisor will comprehend. desire each and every thing has looked after itself out now.

I would have done the same exact thing. Look, you have every right to protect your health regardless of someones feelings. A moment of embarrassment is a small price to pay for being herpes-free.

No, I can understand. I don't think I'd want to know someone with an open sore like that was working on my food either. Esp. since cold sores are caused by a virus and can easily be transmitted via money. I'm sure she had no idea what was happening though, so don't worry about it.

I burned my bottom lip on hot pizza cheese a week or so ago. Until a day ago it looked like a herpes sore.
Still you acted on the safe side, and if it was herpes, she should not be working with food.

Just a little food for thought ; What did the guy making your food look like? If they put her out to face the public, what do the others look like? What kind of oozing sores did they have? GROSS!! I bet you never eat at Carl's Junior again!
