Why are stiches mostly black?

This is a bonus question for my biology class, I can't find the answer?

they use black silk thread so they can see the stiches

Black stiches are usually the kind that have to be removed manually. Theyre most likely blakc because theyre easy to spot and remove. The dissovleable ones are white, and dissolve in about 2-7 days.
