I have to come up with a good finger food dessert for a bake sale. We are not allowed to bring things that require forks. And I'd rather not make some cookies or brownies. I want something that will stand out! Please Help!?

Crisp rice treats with sliced colored gumdrops in them are unusual and pretty.

If you don't have a recipe for the treats, I use

1/4 cup margarine
10 oz mini marsh,allows
5 cups crisp rice cereal
a good pile -- maybe a cup -- of sliced multicolored gumdrops or tiny jelly beans or other colorful candies that won't melt

Melt the margarine in a heavy saucepan, then add the marshmallows. Bring to a boil over medium heat, boil for at least one minute. The mixture should start to brown (it turns a light cream color) just a little bit. Remove from heat. Add cereal and candies.

Spread evenly and pat down in a greased 13"x9" cake pan. Allow it to cool until it's barely warm. Slice it into squares and let it cool fully before removing it from the pan.

If this is for kids, you can substitute colored fruity ring cereal and omit the candies, if you'd rather. It still makes an eye-catching treat.

Make napoleons from puff pastry, filled with chocolate pudding. Very impressive looking, but easy to do. The compliments never stop when I make these.

Just buy the frozen dough by Pepperidge Farm. Cut into squares & bake (follow package directions on handling and baking). Make chocolate pudding, adding cool whip to make it thicker. Separate pastry and spoon a small amount (like a tbsp or 2) of filling into each. Place top back on then dust them with cocoa powder using sifter. (or drizzle with melted chocolate) Arrange on a platter, or wrap individually. I would have tons of napkins available for those who can't wait to eat- these get messy, but are so delicious.

Make chocolate chip cookie bars, or some people call them Blonde Brownies. They are simply chocolate chip cookies you bake in a jelly roll pan or cake pan, instead of individually on a cookie sheet.

You shouldn't make pies or cakes unless the person is going to buy the whole thing and then bring it home. It's hard to eat slices of things without sitting down. You should make rice crispy treats. They're the best and everyone loves them. The recipe is on the side of every rice crispy cereal box.

You have to try Vacuum Cleaner cookies. They're not really cookies, more like little bars that you slice. But they are so goooood.
The recipe first originated in the LA Times.
