I think it is so why are people abusing that stupid report flag on people. It can cause people to lose accounts (not just there silly answers profile) that can handicap them in real life. It also ruins the exchange of ideas in this forum. Why is it here if it serves no purpose?

You do like your freedom, don't ya David?

You're right; freedom of speech is good.

Without freedom, what do we have?

And you're also right about people indefinitely or permanently losing their Yahoo! e-mail accounts if they receive too many violation e-mails; their accounts can become flagged and eventually deactivated so I strongly suggest not to leave any important personal data & information, not to mention all your personal e-mails, inside your Yahoo! account if you decide to spend a lot of time on the answers website. You can always open another e-mail account with a different network provider if you ever feel your account isn't safe in Yahoo!'s hands.

You never know who is crazy enough to report you, and for what silly or unimportant reason, so be careful and watch your back at all times!

I totally agree with you 100%: the silly red flag (report abuse) needs to be removed & eliminated at once!!!

If only...

Freedom of speech is dead as far as the internet is concerned. Privatized communications on the internet does not have Constitutional constraints. that is the EULA and rules you read when you go almost anywhere on the internet.

There is no way for Yahoo to know there is *abuse* of flags unless you complain to customer service via a violation notice. It would be better to have a why notice instead of a violation notice, but I imagine that would be profit negative because humans would have to judge..

The report button is to stop spammers and people who are just preaching and not answering questions. It used to be much worse here before they started cracking down. Most forums have some sort of control like this, since for some reason people seem to get a kick out of pissing other people off.

I am all for freedom of speech...However, if you think this is an appropriate place to use profanities when you disagree with a persons views, then you are wrong.
I do think that the flag system might be abused by people who cant take debating for what it is...

David each time you get turned in and get a violation notice, just email back the answers team and ask them to look at what you said. If you have done nothing wrong they will apologize and fix it.

See my questions, and i recieved two violations!
Go figure!

People do it for the same reason others will scratch a new car with a metal object as they walk by it.

We need to speak within the rules.

Adults have rules, children have different rules. We need to remember that not everyone that reads is adult.
