Is it possible to do this, and if so, is it complicated? Currently, if I have files that are larger than 700 mb, I use Nero 9 to split it into 2 VCD's, but wondered if I could just burn them onto a single DVD-R instead. I don't really understand alot about the different extensions (ie. avi, mpg etc) or some of the other computer terminology related to burning stuff, so if you could keep your answer worded fairly simply, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I should add, that I would like to be able to play it in my DVD player. They are mostly AVI files, but I find that Nero is reasonably fast at doing the coding, or whatever it is to convert it so that it will play in my DVD player. I just want to make sure that if I use a DVD-R, that I don't have to do anything different (ie. do I still burn it as a VCD, or do I have to do it as a data disc? )

you are right..
that is how you make a dvd with nero.
Just add the VCD file to the compilation and burn it in a dvd disc
avi takes too long to reencode.. so try to always work with mpg videos.

You can use a DVD disk like a data disk, you don't have to make it DVD-player compatible. Just copy the whole file onto a DVD disk like you would copy any other file on your hard drive. Most modern DVD players will recognize an MPEG or AVI file extension. A VCD is of poor quality and most commonly has a small file size and is suitable for CDs.

The answer to your question though is yes, you can make a DVD - VCD disk with your movie software.

NO yet convert it to dvd format as a replace of vcd format and you will somewhat truthfully, or in the journey that your dvd participant performs vcds merely burn a vcd. i'm guessing you pick to place assorted vcds on a dvd and that i understand of no thank you to try this. plus vcd is plenty decrease decision than maximum xvids and all dvds.
