It depends -- most general surgery residencies are about 5 years long, and a subsequent plastics residency is about 2-3 years more.

However, there are some programs that combine the 2, and it ends up being about 6-7 years long -- but these programs are rare and uber-competitive.

So the average age of a recent med school grad is 26-27

Then the general surgery residency of 5-7 years would leave them around 31-32.

Then the plastics specialty (3 years I think) would leave them around 34-35 years old.
