Hi,
I am boy. I straighten my hair everyday. I've heard that the heat from the ceramic straightener is bad for the hair and so I shouldnt do it. My hair are very dry and rough and curly, thats why I striaghten them. But if I continue to striaghten them, even if they go bad, cant I just shave my head and healthy new hair will grow?

You don't sound like a boy if you are straightening your hair every day...
Shave your head....look like a man!

You shouldn't have to shave your head. You could get a short cut to take off most of the damage and still leave your head with some hair on it. Try using a straightening lotion in the future to help work with the ceramic straightener. Keep in mind that it's not meant to fry your hair, if you are damaging your hair I think you may be holding the iron on it for too long of a time. I think your ethnicity may take a part in it as well. Caucasian hair and Afro-American hair are to be treated differently because of the texture of the hair.

My wife is a cosmetologist and she says to try using a gentle, chemical relaxer which will soften the curl.

Straightening irons will damage the hair, just make sure if you are going to use it to use some sort of product in the hair prior to help protect from the heat.

Yes, if you shave your head bald you will grow back healthy new hair. Good luck!

You dont need to shave your head! just go to a beauty store like Ulta and buy a moisturizing leave in conditioner and use until your hair is soft and healthy. Dont buy super cheap stuff bc it wont work as well.
Then once your hair is back to normal then use an in shower conditioner everyday! and some days take a break from the straightener

There are some really good products that you can by to protect the cuticle. It's wise to purchase these. Some seem costly at first but they are so nice and protect the moisture in the hair. Another point is to make sure your hair isn't completely dry when using a flat iron. This adds moisture to the hair when using the iron.

I straighten too.
Just get a very nice ceramic one.
And some good hair products.
A professional or stylist ( not one you find at cost cutters)
can help you find a good product to keep healthy hair.
I also reccommend Pantene Pro-V Time Renewal
Restores up to 2 years of damage in 1 month

If you until to you the straightener it will dry it out, but trying yourself a hot oil treatment and then use a therm spray to protect you hair why use the ceramic straightener. I hope this help some.

Try using thermasilk or any heat activated hair products. The vitamin Lecithin has done wonders for my hair. If you shave your head & are still doing the wrong things to your hair its just gonna be unhealthy again. The lecithin took about 3 months to work but its really good. Also infusium hair products softens hair nicely.

Healthy new hair will grow back --- but when it does grow back, take care to maintain it. (And don't keep it bald... maybe it's just me, but unless you're a baby, an old man, or Vin Diesl, bald is rarely cute.)

Regarding various other comments, there's nothing wrong with being a guy and straightening your hair... whether you're straight, gay, bi, or whatever. If you prefer it straightened, by all means --- go for it!
