Honestly, I'm not sure I would pick a name like that and then shorten it. It's a great name by itself. I suppose "Ami" would be kinda cute? Anything else you try might sound silly, and no one would guess that the child's name is Americus...

I love the name, and it is one of my favorite books and movies! You could try amer - kinda like amber without the B.

But I wouldn't shorten it. Instead of shortening it you could just call her by the middle name. Americus Nicole... but whats the point then... LOL
