I am betting you either color/perm/relax/or straighten your hair? Or is it possibly going gray? (gray has less moisture !)
Go to a salon and get an analysis. Get a reconstructive treatment and purchase the professional shampoo and conditioner the stylist recommends. Use it continually as directed for at least two - three weeks. If you don't see any improvement, return the product to the salon and get something else recommended. I would imagine if you are using a store shampoo it is very alkaline and damaging your already weak hair. Don't buy the store brands, the reason most people need to switch shampoos/cond. bought at the store is because they are not PH regulated for the hair. They can say anything they want and get away with it, because its not illegal. Salon brands on the other hand are balanced with hair type in mind. Why? because we want your business ! We want you to come back for all your hair needs, not just shampoos and conds.

Use shampoos that have shampp+conditioner and also the conditoner, and try buying some moisturizing products to apply when hair is wet. Don't give up if results don't come suddenly, use it for atleast a month and it should be getting better.

Go for an African American treatment conditioner called something similar to cholestrol. It has vitamins, minerals, and deep conditioners to soften your hair. I also like Bumble and Bumble conditioner for dry hair. It is expensive, but really good stuff.

Try conditioning twice, then using BioSilk. It's a brand of hair oil and it's great.
