Hi, I wrap my hair and keep it that way for the purpose of laying it flat to my head so that I can wear my lace front wig. Wrapping the hair can also be worn down which gives your hair body to straight hair. The shorter the hair, better are the results. You can do a dry wrap or a wet wrap. A dry wrap is blow drying the hair straight with a little design mouse. Use a chi iron and pull it straight to the ends with a curve. I usually pull it in the direction of the wrap. Once you've pulled the chi iron through the hair, then began brushing the hair around the head. You can place a wig cap on your head for a couple of hours, remove and comb in the direction of the wrap. The hair should fall beautifully. For a wet wrap, after shampooing, apply lotta body to your hair and comb through combing the hair around your head. Set under a dryer until the hair is thoroughly dried. Carefully comb the hair in the direction of the wrap until hair is loose. If you don't have a dryer, let your hair dry naturally with a wig cap on your head. This could take several hours. Your best bet is to go to a salon and let them wrap your hair so that you can see how its done. The shorter your hair is the easier this is achieved.

Hair Wrapping String

If you're talking about hair wraps, I believe the purpose is just decorative. I'm not black(white/native american/russian), but I somehow ended up with some crazy nappy curly hair that my mom had no idea what to do with when I was younger however, I conveniently had a Jamaican neighbor(mom sent me and my crazy hair over there all the time). She would wrap all of the girls in the neighborhood's hairs. We would usually just wear one strand, but sometimes she would do her daughter's entire head. First she would use a comb and section out the hair and then she usually used something to smooth it out (the same stuff you use for braids) though this wasn't neccesary for the girls with fine, straight hair. Next she would braid it tightly(though some skip this step). Then she would take 4 long pieces(couple of feet, depending on the length of our hair) of embroidery floss(if we chose 2 colors, 6 if we chose 3) tie a knot very close to the scalp, then take 1 of the strands of the same color and wrap it around the braid and the remaining strings. Next she would put the first string back with the braid and the other strings and do the same thing with the next color and repeat back and forth til it went about an inch past the braid, then she would string a bead or two on and knot it off. If you use more string you can make the "wrap" go several inches past the length of your hair, so it doesn't really matter how long or short your hair is, but longer hair requires longer lengths of string and more time. Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I hope it helps :)

Most women I know who wrap their hair have medium length hair and want to keep it straightened out after a press or roller/dryer set. When you have longer hair that can be worn straight without curling, wraps can help keep your press or non-chemical straightening from reverting.

You can wrap hair of any length. When you wrap your hair, you usually part it on the side or middle, then brush all the hair around in one direction. It takes some practice to get the hair smooth. Some people I know use oils or other products, but I don't think it's necessary if your hair is properly moisturized. Once you have a smooth wrap, you can tie a satin cap over it to keep in place. Latino women wrap their hair too.

Usually when a woman with coarse hair gets her hair done she has to wrap it in order for it to come out looking like it did at the salon with very little maintenance work. Unlike woman with finer hair that can sleep and just brush it back the way she wants it. It all depends on the texture of the hair and not only black women do it, others do to, to keep the style.

I prefer hair that is shoulder length or longer, And also since that men who like women are more often then not straight, they like long hair because that looks more feminine, as most males have short hair.
