this sounds so familar. me and my boyfriend have been going out for over 3 years, but it took us months to finally start talking a lot to each other. just try to find common ground with him. me and my boyfriend had a few friends in common and we would go over to their house to watch movies and hang out. just talk about your friends or your family or share whatever interests you.
