My mother was rebuked by a christian woman when my mom simply wished her "happy ostara" something like that.. since she works at a book store she sees many people and just wants to be friendly.

This woman went crazy and started praying and saying "i REBUKE thee in the name of the lord"

Why do *some* chrisitans go crazy like this? if she is offended she should just let it go. it's not any worse then a christian going " god bless you". Christians are you offended when pagans wish you a happy ostara or blessed be?

I don't really understand the circustances, but sometimes Bible-thumpers can be really annoying and detrimental to the spread of Christianity. Paganism also goes against everything in Christianity, and we believe you are in danger of hell. The woman should have been praying for your mother, not rebuking her, that is up to God and God alone.

Some people just have a hair trigger like that. Not that it's excusable behavior, but some people are just like that.

Wish me a happy ostara or blessed be or happy solstice or anything else, I appreciate the sentiment behind the statement even if my worldview is not aligned with yours.

I am not sure what happy ostara means. Can you tell me?
Thanks for telling me. I believe that god is the one true God. I would love everyone to believe that as well. The truth is that we have a freedom to believe in what we choose to. In the end I would rather believe there is a God then not to. In stating this, I would not be offended if that were said. If it means what you say it means then it is positive and I would oblige with Happy Spring to you as well :)

No. The beauty of America is freedom of speech and I am not offended if people wish me a happy "ostara" even if I don't agree with it. But likewise, pagans shouldn't find "God bless" offesive.

Perhaps she thought your mum was being deliberately provocative?

Some people are very thin-skinned, and they can be of any shade of religion or philosophy. I had a witchcraft-practicer go nazi on me when I mentioned I was a christian. Her friend started saying all sorts of deprecating things about me, all fiction.

Actually the christian message is somewhat attuned to reaching out to the most afflicted, as the bible says, so I suppose it does attract some weak hurt people. Salvation is for all though, regardless of their level of righteousness when they start out.

holier than thou christians over react in this way, failing to be christ like in this approach, how do they think non christians would be interested in christianity when they see christians acting this way...........some christians act this way because "earthly things" or people of different opinions are considered evil, alot of the time these christians simply have only the family within the confounds of their church, quite sad really. i personally don't get offended we all need to stop being so p.c,relax and move on,does it really matter what someone says at the end of the day. she probably has no problem telling atheists/others happy christmas etc............

*some* is a good way of putting it. That woman who went crazy obvisouly has a fire of hate burning in her that she let out on your mother. That is not a Christian thing to do. Christians have to let hate go, the woman should have reponded in a more appropriate manner, absent of contempt or rudeness.

I'm often offended by people who believe; "they" are going to be raptured or even "tempted" by a few words. This is just another form of paranoia, delusions of grandeur and schizophrenia. Pure Holy fanaticism. I actually resent and feel sorry for people who are still lost sheep after all. Now, where are those donuts and coffee?
