Restart your computer. When it first restarts, keep tapping the F8 key, that will get you to the Safe Mode. A black screen with options will appear, choose Safe Mode with Networking. The Safe Mode will almost look like your normal desktop, but no drivers will load, hopefully to the malicious program. Now scan for viruses or spyware with your program. If you find nothing, download this free and safe program called Advanced Windows Care, simple to use, helped me out allot. Best of luck, chow.

First try an online virus scan and then do the following to make your machine fast again....
I just saw another question like this earlier tonight and it was recommended to google up "slow computer" and I found a link that really helped me a lot!!!!! I just ran thru the services files in windows and disable some of them or set them to manual (I'm not on a network of workstations and so forth....) It was found on this link I'm giving you that Windows has gotten so big over the years that it sure does take a lot of system resources just to run them all, especially when you don't need to run them all on "automatic"....
try this out....My machine is only a year old, but now it's at lightening speed like it was before...believe me, having a 2.6G processor running slower after a year isn't funny, not to mention that I've got almost 3G of memory on this thing too!....It's Window's unneccessary services that you have to work with...to get your machine to run its peak performance its made to do so....
http://www.masternewmedia.org/news/2006/04/12/slow_computer_speed_up_your.htm
This was really a great recommendation and I'm soooo happy to get my machine running like new again!
Be sure to let us know how this worked for you...It's really a solution to go by!!!! Good Luck! and be sure to FOLLOW the INSTRUCTIONS at the near bottom of the article (where it tells you how to click start and run services.msc and then go thru the long list to take care of the culprit services you DON'T need! Then you can come back and it burns now baby!!!!!
I would also suggest that after you do this to try and online PC registry clean up and make sure that all your cookies and history are cleared out too...Most registry scanners will remove unneccessary redundant files that take up space! Good Luck and BURN BABY, BURN!

Need more info first. Processor type? Processor speed? Amount of memory? Size of hard drive? How much space is free on the hard drive? Type of O/S?
As a general fix, try going into Internet Explorer options and deleting cache and temporary files. That can get rid of Megabytes of clutter on the hard drive. Also, depending on your O/S, "defrag" might help.
It could also be a virtual memory issue, or it could be a virus or other mal-war issue. It could also be your hard drive is getting too full, or it could be a registry problem from loading and unloading software over many years.
It could even be an old version of anti-virus software that just doesn't keep up with today's world.
Need more 411 to help you.

Using registry cleaner can fix your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there are some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically! It even can speed up your computer by 300% or more!
There are some comparisons and reviews of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

Have you tried booting in "safe mode" which will load minimal apps and drivers? It may run quicker that way which will allow you to run a virus scanner and spyware scanner. You may also be able to run Task Manager to look under the "processes" tab for what might be taking all the cpu cycles. When PC is booting, hit F8 several times as Windows is starting up to get into "safe mode".

On a day when you have nothing to do and all the time in the world to spare(seeing that your PC is so slow) you might wanna delete some of your cookies on your computer. You also might wanna try going under the control panel to performance and maintenance. Next click on "Rearrange items on your hard disk to make programs run faster" That will walk you through everything(it's super easy). And last you probably want to click on "Free up space on your hard disk". I do this every once and a while and everything works pretty efficiently...Hope this helps!!

nicely in virtually all communities, your information superhighway is really plugged into some field on or close on your highway. even as everybody plugged into that field attempt to max out their information superhighway connections you are able to journey some slower information superhighway. As on your workstation, it does have something to do with it. Your information superhighway browser has to load, and your workstation runs it. Viruses may also decelerate your workstation and take up fairly some your information superhighway connection, making it seem sluggish

You should go to Geek Squad down at Best Buy. They are great.
and if you do end up losing your music, well then you can always restore your computer to try to get it back.
Also...before you take it in...go out a buy like..1 hd dvd and put all of your songs on that disc.
it can hold alot...LIKE 20,000
so...that's all i can think of..
