YES - I have taken it. If your doctor has prescribed it is O.K. But do not exeed the dose or even EXTEND the dose and you will get addicted to it.. i do not k now what is your problem and the doctor has given it. I am giving all the details of this drug for your inforamtion -

Brand Names: OXYCONTIN, Roxicodone

Drug Class And Mechanism: Oxycodone is a narcotic pain-reliever and cough suppressant similar to codeine and hydrocodone. The precise mechanism of pain relief by oxycodone and other narcotics is not known. Oxycodone was approved by the FDA in 1976. The combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen (Percocet) achieves greater pain relief than either of the component medications taken separately. (For more information, please visit the acetaminophen (Percocet) site.)

Prescribed For: Oxycodone is prescribed for the relief of moderate to moderately severe pain.
Drug Interactions: Oxycodone, like other narcotic pain-relievers, potentiates (increases) the effects of drugs that slow the brain's function, such as alcohol, barbiturates, skeletal muscle relaxants, for example, carisoprodol (Soma) and cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), and benzodiazepines, for example, lorazepam (Ativan) and can lead to markedly-impaired brain function.

SIDE EFFECTS: The most frequent adverse reactions of oxycodone include lightheadedness, dizziness, sedation, nausea, and vomiting. Other side effects include drowsiness, constipation, and spasm of the ureter, which can lead to difficulty in urinating.

Oxycodone can depress breathing, and is used with caution in elderly, debilitated patients and in patients with serious lung disease. Oxycodone can impair thinking and the physical abilities required for driving or operating machinery. Oxycodone may be habit forming. Mental and physical dependence can occur, but are unlikely when used for short-term pain relief.

You know, if you crush an Oxycontin then you would have powder, so yeah I guess you probably can get it in powder form. Did you know that Oxycontin is really a form of heroine? You may not believe me, but look up the chemical components of heroine and for oxy and see what you find! Please don't take Oxycontin unless you are already dying of cancer or some other terrible disease! I have seen a few of my friends die that way! That is why I would never touch the stuff.

I'm currently taking oxy and oxy-ir. I feel that they work great. I have tried a lot of diffrent pain meds but so far the oxy seems to work the best. Don't get scared of all the crap you read on this site, yes you will become dependant but that is a lot diffrent then addicted. Just take it as prescribed and you will be fine. The one side effect that is the worst though is constipation. I take metamucil twice every day and that took care of it. If you have any questions feel free to email me, i know a lot about pain and medications...

I've taken it. It didn't do anything for me, but very few drugs help me with pain. I'm a rarity in that sense. I'm not sure what the doctor told you, but here's some more information on it... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxycotin#Medical_use

Hi, i am glad that you asked about it. I have taken it and it is a very strong drug. It can and is very addictive to many people. It is sold on the street buy people who push it. Please be very careful and only take it if it's absolutely necessary. Maybe you should see if your Dr. could prescribe you something just as effective but not addictive or habit forming. I am glad I got your question and hopefully I helped you. Take care and be careful

agreed with the sensible answers before. It is strong works well but is addictive. I would not take it unless i had to. And definatly not give it to anyone else. I wold ask for a less addictive drug and for sure express your concerns with your doctor. I am eally suprised that the Doc and the pharmacist didnt go over all this with you ....

DON'T TAKE THIS PAIN MEDICATION.... THE STREET NAME FOR THIS IS HILBILLY HEROINE. IT IS AN OPIATE AND YOU GET ADDICTED TO THIS TO THE POINT OF HAVING TO GO TO A HEROINE DETOX CENTER IN ORDER TO GET OFF THE MEDS. IT IS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE AND THE ONLY REASON DOCTORS PRESCRIBE IT SO EASILY IS BECAUSE THE DRUG MANUFACTURER GIVES THE DOCTORS KICKBACKS DEPENDING HOW MUCH THEY PRESCRIBE. THE DOCTORS TODAY ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN THE MONEY THEY GET AT THE END OF THE YEAR FROM THIS COMPANY. DON'T TAKE IT.....
