in truth, its easy. just walk into any psychiatric unit and ask to see the duty psychiatrist. its what theyre there for. like casualty for the mind...

i already did this... 12 years ago my dad died and it severely messed me up. 18months in, i couldnt do it any longer... and i walked into the unit off the street... i was with someone inside 20 minutes...

i walked out 4 hours later... and began the slow crawl back to reality... so yes, it worked for me... it took 3yrs out of my life... but that was almost 10 years ago... im off to a close friends mums funeral in 11 hours... and it runs full circle, only im holding their hand...

there is always light at the end of the tunnel, the trick is to know its there, even if you cant see it.

I think you can ask to talk to a community mental health nurse (CPN) without a doctor's referral - at your nearest mental health resource centre or hospital department. They can be very helpful to talk to, though may need to refer you on to a psychiatrist if you need any medicines.

When I was depressed at university I had a brilliant counsellor at the student health centre. A couple of years ago I saw a "counsellor" on the NHS after a GP referral and
very long wait, but can't say I found his approach
helpful (just sat there and expected me to find my own solutions to my problems.....)!

Some churches run confidential counselling services, often for free, or offer a "listening ear" service to anyone who drops in. If you live anywhere near Uxbridge, Middlesex, drop into St Margaret's opposite the station any weekday lunchtime.....

that's ok. :) It appears like bipolar, and that regularly takes slightly longer to diagnose(on condition that there are temper swings and in specific circumstances there are days and months even years between swings besides the shown fact that it seems such as you have the speedier time plus you're a teenager and extra often than not we've quicker swings i do no longer understand why lol), yet you ought to in all probability have some thing else too. i've got self assurance it regularly takes in all probability 2 sessions to be clinically determined, yet my difficulty grow to be very diverse from persons and that i've got an fantastically diverse form of psychological sickness so I have been given clinically determined in like 5 minutes. i understand people who've psychological ailments and that i think of it takes a pair visits. yet unlike 5 months or something lol:) you do no longer ought to be apprehensive or scared, that's going to be ok:) you will go in, like a common docs place of work, your motherfather will sign you in on your appointment, you will watch for approximately 5 minutes or besides the shown fact that long it takes for the surgeon to finally finally end up with the previous affected person, the psychiatrist will open the door and make contact with you decrease back, you will take a seat on a comfortable settee andor chairs, and heshe will ask you approximately what has been happening. the only genuine distinction is which you get to take a seat down on a comfortable settee(no longer your ordinary lay down settee yet I recommend like the form of settee that's on your front room) or chairs, and that they gained't learn you. The surgeon might have a notepad on them, writing down your indicators, asking you questions, regularly the 1st consultation is longer than the others, approximately 20 minutes longer. maximum sessions are approximately 40 5 minutes - an hour. :) i desire each and every thing is going nicely. xoxo

for every 10 there is one good one but it can, depend on what you need from them since there is different types of treatment, but if you find a one you like stick with them and always go never miss an appointment, most people go into that profession because they have problems, i once knew a girl who had problems very self orientated, very un-empathic, didn`t have a clue about life, she became a counseller now that scares me, you really want to find a psychologist if its like a therapy thing but if its things like schizophrenia then psychiatrist would be best, psychiatrists just hand out tablets they believe its all about chemicals in the brain, which a lot of the time a good dose of therepy is needed.
but talk to your doc first then take it from there

I know you can be referred to a counsellor through your doctor. maybe that would be your first step. To see your gp. My experience of seeing a counsellor through the nhs wasnt very good but I think it was just the wrong person for me. On another occasion I saw someone else and the session was more comfortable for me.

They can help you greatly!!! That is their job is to help people. If you work your work may have an mental health benifit where you can get a few free sessions with a counselor. If you are a student just about every school has counselors just go and ask for an appointment. They are not just there for achedemic counseling. You can go to them with anything.

Your own doctor will refer you if he thinks you need it. Try to get a young psychiatrist
as some of the oldies are past it, and it is hard to tell the difference between the patient and the doctor.
Good Luck

you can do an on line research and find out about that doc's credentials and stuff like that or maybe go to the nearest centres and ask around, i think some of them are pretty good, so good luck

You would have to been seen by your GP, who would then refer you to one, then you would have to wait to be put on their waiting list, then wait again to be seen...Its a long haul, my friend has been waiting 13 months, If you can afford it then private consultation would be the best option.
It is absolutely scandalous the time waiting limit.....
Not sure whereabouts you are, but im up in Edinburgh....
