There are groups gettng together now to take a class action suit against menufoods for the illnesses and deaths of their pets. I know of two that you might check out since they could answer your questions and point you to a course of action:

(1) MenuFoodsClassAction@yahoogroups.com
(2) PetConnection.com

First, get your cat in to the vet immediately!

Yes, you probably can sue if you get medical proof that the food is what made your cat sick. Many people are getting together to do this, and I'm sure anybody who had a pet die from this will want to take action. I don't have any recalled cat food (I only buy Purina, kudos to Purina!) but if anything ever happened to one of my pets because of something like this I wouldn't only sue, I would protest, complain, and harass the company for a very long time. Hee hee, I never let anything go. But it is their responsibility to the public to make sure their product doesn't kill pets. Imagine how enraged the public would be if this happened with human food, to the extent of getting out to that many people. I doubt anyone is looking for easy money with suing in this case. An example needs to be made of these companies so this will not happen again.

Meat of Fish should be 1st ingredient. Try to buy the higher quality foods that have complex grains (no wheat or rice or corn) Brown rice or wild rice is fine. Cats in the wild do not eat high amounts of grain....they eat meat with a little vegetation. These high grain foods for cats have been increasing over the years and thus the diabetes in cats has increased exponentially. Please, the cost you will pay extra is minimal. (Preferably the no-grain formulas are best). It seems really high, but you feed them less of it so it really isn't so bad. PLUS, I can promise you from experience that you will pay now or pay later. What does that mean? Without proper nourishment (complex carbs & High protein), your cat will get sick and quite possibly die years earlier and you will be paying all you are currently saving and MORE in vet bills and medications. If YOU ate canned soup every day for the rest of your life, do you think you'd be healthy?? Not a chance. Whatever $$ you saved would go towards your casket and a multitude of doctors/medicine beforehand. All living creatures need proper nourishment to thrive and in the long run, it's the least costly and least troublesome option. (Remember caring for a sick cat is time consuming and giving meds is frustrating...to you and the cat.)

First, take your cat to the vet. You cannot sue Menufoods because your cat is sick, UNTIL you can medically link the illness to their food.

If you can prove that your cat is ill because of their food you can sue them...and maybe even win. However, the way things are going I wouldn't expect to get much.
