No offense to non-believers, I don't want to be discriminative but...What is your opinion of the death penalty? I have heard a few say they are for it and a few against it. I am just wondering what ya'll think...I am already a Christian too (6 years this month!) P.S.-I already have my opinion, I am not asking for persuasion either way. However, if you are for it I want Biblical support and if you are against it I want Biblical support. Thanks in advance, and again, please, only Christians answer this.

As a Christian I cannot support the death penalty. I don't personally feel that I have the authority to judge whether someone else should live or die.

Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done.

People are arguing about the old testament. People are not aware of what the spilling of Jesus Christs blood meant. IT CHANGED EVERYTHING>

Well, I am against the death penalty. I have been ever since my mother asked me a question when I exclaimed when I was younger that I hoped the woman that drowned her own children got the death penalty (Andrea Yates). My mother sat me down and asked, "Why do you want that for her?" I told her that the crime was horrible and no one should do that to their own children. My mom took me by the hand and said, "Well, does it bring the kids back?" I frowned and told her no. I began to really think about what I thought.

Over the years, I have gotten a better grasp on things. Matthew 5:38-39 says, "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also." Romans 12:19-21 states, "Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, say the Lord." No, "if your enemies are hungry, feed them ; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink; by doing this you will heap burning coals on their heads." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

The death penalty is racist as well. It is true that it is more likely that a black man will be sent to death row over a white man for the exact same crime. Also, it is more likely that a man will be sent over a woman. It's not fair. Also, there are times that the evidence is wrong. We do not have the need for eliminating criminals because we have a civilized prison system. We have a way to keep them secure and keep society safe.

I'm a atheist but I am firmly against death penalty. How can loving christians support the death penalty for which there can be no appeal? Even a single false positive (a guy gets killed but hasn't done the deed) is too awful to contemplate. And I am sure that it was more than one single person.

Additionally, we can conclude from countries that do have the death penalty is that it does not deter, something which the proponents would have you believe. Look at the crime rates. Nope, death penalty didn't help.

Sorry no Biblical support, accept only God gives a life and it's not up to us to take a life.
I am very much against the death penalty because it's inhumane and immoral in my humble opinion. It pleases me the UK on this issue saw the error of it's way and put an end to hanging...

This is in no way a judgment on any person nation/country...it's just my opinion...

Edit: i agree with the poster above...mercy...God's mercy..in reply to another poster, we don't live under the law of Moses, we live in the day of grace, and there is a huge difference between a sick dog and a human life..Shalom.

I am in China and am a Christian. I am for death penalty. In the old testament, many people were killed by God, b/c of sins and crimes committed by them. Remember Moses caught a murderer ? They stoned him to death. In the NT, I don't believe Jesus explicitly talked about law (Roman Criminal Law). Biblical law has nothing to do with worldly law (seperation of state and religion)

There are sins that as a child of GOD they can cut your life short on this earth.
Fornication is one, remember the thousands that died in the wilderness? Ananias and Saphrias, fell over dead (new Testament).
There are others.
You have the right to defend your life up to taking the attackers life, if he won't stop attacking you. Isn't this a form of death penalty?
Yes, I believe in the death penalty.
I wouldn't want to have to help figure it all out.
But one thing for sure, you have to be SURE, no doubt whatsoever, that the person is guilty.
No doubt.

I will simply point to the complete laws of Moses as an example of why the death penalty is favorable. That would be my Biblical support.

But I can also say as a 6th generation Texan ... it ain't pleasant, but sometimes you have to put a rabid dog down.

I suggest you to consider two things in the Bible - not even one leaf of a tree falls down if it's not His will, and life and death are only in His hands.

When I listen about death penalty, I pray God to have mercy and comfort both, the person who receives the punishment and the executor. I don't think it's easy for none of them.
I know that Jesus sees way beyond what is done; it's their heart that matters and their soul the one to be saved. So, this is what I pray for, that they come to know the truth, and that they have eternal life trough Jesus.

GBU!!

From a Christian point of view? ...
Some death row guys are not as bad as others that may be paroled. (Murder may be assault that hit to hard, while attempted murder may have missed a vital organ with the 6 bullets)
Once a person has been executed, there is no salvation for him.
Since the prisoner is not going to harm society where he is, Christians have a chance to convert him.
While there is life, there is hope.

Old Testament had life for a life.
New testament, Jesus taught forgiveness. When faced with sinners deserving to die, Jesus said ...
"Father forgive them ..."
""He who is without sin ..."
"... go, and sin no more"

I am against it in all cases. It is not up to the state or man to take a life - whether an unborn baby or a convicted murderer. I am "pro-life" and I am consistent.

Too many people who are not guilty are on death row. It's a fact. DNA evidence is getting them released every day.

Exodus (23:7), there's a command: Thou shalt not execute the innocent.
