I am trained in the martial arts
I am 13 and i beat 17 year old male once
The gender does not matter when it comes to martial arts
We all have our weak spots
A woman can easily manipulate a man
and a man can also easily manipulate a woman
it depends on their training and skill in the martial arts
So yes a woman can defeat a man

It is possible, but it depends on the circumstances.
First off, what martial art are we talking about?
I'm presuming you mean unarmed as women actually make better snipers than men. As they generally have better aim (hand eye co-ordination) and are more patient.
Unarmed however women are at a disadvantage as the average woman's physical build is less than that of the average man's.
That is really where the gender difference is well- different.
A body builder chick vs. a pee wee herman guy will have the same advantage as a weak girl vs. a powerlifter guy as will an average guy have a disadvantage vs. a powerlifter guy.
The real difference is the size and weight and stregth difference. If a person (man or woman) has a 200lb advantage on another (man or woman) then they have the advantage and it requires that much more training to be able to overcome it.
It is possible to overcome some weight advantage, but not all.
The whole "man/woman" thing is based upon the fact that on average women are smaller than men. However get a powerlifting woman, and an "average" guy, and this changes.
Basically the question comes down to:
"can someone with a weight/height/stregth disadvantage, overcome a larger more powerfull opponent with a longer reach advantage?"
Yes, this is absolutely true they can, but it depends on the amount of the weight advantage, and how hard they train and how good a fighter they are. The bigger the difference, the more skill needed to overcome the disadvantage.

Martial is not about defeating he or she. Yes, a woman can beat a man, if she have the skill and mind to do so. One of the top most well know martial art in the world is develop by a woman. Maybe you should look up the history of Wing chun kung fu. It was what Bruce Lee learn in his early career.

The answer is of course. I have seen plenty of cases where the woman has defeated a man and of course I have seen the opposite. In fighting there is too many variables. A woman can loose against a man the same way a man can loose to another man. An the opposite is also true. In my law enforcement career I have seen some occasions where a lady beat up a guy that try to rob her and one in particular ( this one was great) a guy grab the womens purse (she was walking out of martial arts practice) she turned around and she punch him in the nose breaking his nose and the guy ran and eventually went to the police and tried to file charges against the lady. LOL needless to say he spent some time in jail. LOL

This is quite a hard question to answer really.
There are so many possible answers, it is possible for a woman to beat a man, i am lucky enough not to have been in life threatening situations in reality, but i have had someone try and grab me before.
I have studied freestyle karate for four years and i am 14 years old. I am short (even for a female) so people under estimate me.
I think its totally possible for a woman to beat a man, but then a man could beat a woman too, its a double sided coin. strength, anatomy, confidence and training all come into it.
I have beaten men in fights before, but it is sometimes no easy feat (in my karate dojo) and im pretty confident i could handle myself in the streets for real if i had to.
In my opinion, men are mostly at an advantage to women, its not sexist, anyone who pays attention in biology and sports education will learn men have larger lung capacities, more muscle (girls stop developing them at 14, boys at 21) and they also have different skeletal structures. but if a person is so determined to do something, i think they can do anything including saving there lives in a street situation if they had to.
Not that im saying determined people are invincible, when it comes down to it the best weapon a person can have is a pair of good running shoes, just because you are trained it does not make you invincible.
I hope I helped here for you!

*sigh* does anybody feel like this question has been asked before? OK. Yes, it is possible for a woman to defeat a man, trained or untrained. No, she doesn't have to have years and years of training. (usually a few weeks of self-defense training will suffice.) But she does have to know better than to rely on her strength and size to carry the day. And she must know how to use other elements to her advantage-- ie., environment, speed, vulnerable points, timing, etc. In sportsfighting, she probably won't be able to defeat many men, because most rules of sportsfighting force you to rely on your strength and size. (Don't fool yourself... why do you think the UFC has weight divisions?) In combat (a life-or-death situation) YES, it's possible. Take the military, for instance. Or law enforcement. They can't use techniques that rely on strength and size; there's always the possibility that a soldier or a policeman will have to take out/restrain someone bigger and stronger than himself. So they adapt techniques that allow a person to take down any opponent, regardless of gender, size, or strength. Same thing goes for self-defense situations, especially because they are geared toward smaller and weaker opponents. Also don't forget that the majority of martial arts (wing chun, for instance) were developed to allow smaller opponents to overcome bigger opponents.

Anything is possible.
However, it is unlikely that the typical woman martial artist would defeat an average man who was truly determined to harm her.
Men are, on average, larger than women, and they usually have more muscle per unit of body weight than women. Additionally, a man who would try to harm a woman is usually a bully who will pick on a woman who is much smaller and more passive than he is. Bullies never pick on people bigger than them.
It's my judgement that the average high school football player would find it very easy to harm most women; women are not strong enough, fast enough, aggressive enough, or mean enough to stand up to a fully committed assault by a man.
If a woman finds herself in a situation where she is truly threatened by a man, she should try to use surprise against him; hit him with as devastating an attack as she can possibly bring to bear on him, then run as fast as she can. This usually would mean attacking his eyes: attacking the groin is not a sure thing.
All woman who are in situations where they are forced to rely on themselves for personal protection should carry and know how to use a proper weapon. Unarmed martial arts are not to be confused with self defense, they are two different things.

Hi,
When I began training 11 years ago I simply could not see how a woman could physically overpower a man, however through my own personal experiences I can say I was totally wrong, even if martial arts are not practised!!xx

Hi there
Simple answer is yes but with complications. If we are talking about UFC tournaments then probably no. But if you mean out on the street in real life then absolutely. Its rather a sexist question to ask but if you look at the history of martial arts and warfare there were female ninja and female samurai. So in the real world yes. But up against some rather large bald headed nutcase in a cage then no. But then i think most men would also have serious problems dealing with them too!
