I just got back home from the vet...and, well, it isn't important. I just need to know how long a dog can live without food and water. Can somebody please tell me?

Kay, just so you don't think I'm trying to test this, or something weird, he swallowed something and cannot pee, or poop (thus he does not eat). The vet said they'd have to do a surgery on him, and I can't get any money until the 1st. So...I don't know what to do. =/

well, at 12 hours i would make my vet aware of the situation, and at 24 hours i would be taking Fido in for an IV.

hmm this question worrys me why do you ask???

well here is what I know Dogs can live for quite a while without food, depending on their physical condition prior to the period of starvation. I have heard anecdotal stories
about dogs living three to four weeks without access to food.

Dogs will die much more rapidly without water, although I do not know if anyone has actually studied this to determine some sort of average length of time that it would take. This would be influenced by the circumstances at the time of water deprivation. In hot weather water restriction might lead to death in as short a time as a day but under ideal circumstances it wouldn't surprise me if a dog could live as long as a week without water.

That is just a guess on my part --- not sometime that I know to be a fact. But it is not a good idea to experiment to see. Dogs should have fresh water available to them at all times, ideally. I hope this answers your question! :) I would really like to know why you ask? :) Take care hun!!

My dog is eating but will not drink. He has a tumor that is inoperable but he is in no pain per the vet. The previous person is not being humane for asking that question; they just need to know. I am facing the same dilemma. I have spent thousands trying to save my dog so before you judge someone by their question you might want to consider the circumstances

I tried several natural/holistic cat foods that don't contain corn or brewers yeast (Orijen, Wellness, Instinct, Innova Evo) because my cat has allergies as well. While the scratching started to subside, they all contain a lot of protein. The two that she liked ended up giving her diarrhea and she wasn't keen on fiber additives. I've since switched back to regular food and will end up putting her on a low-dose anti-histamine. Good luck.

Why would you put a question like that on here? You know what people are going to think..If the dog is sick and you were going to let it die,you would have just let the vet put it to sleep..You are a sadistic person..
