An example would be:

You feed a poor person.

Good job.

God doesn't think so because you only did that to impress a woman.

Is this the way it really goes down?

What about killing in self defence. Shouldn't you turn the other cheek?

very good observation....yes God is very interested in our motives...the Bible declares (paraphrased) that the works we do in His name will be burned up if not done with the proper motives.

When Jesus taught about turning the other cheek,He was refering to Religious persecution, not self defense,or protecting the innocent when we have opportunity to do so.

Sure motive matters. Would you want to be kissed by your significant other if they didn't mean it? If the person says "I love you" without meaning it, do you feel loved? It's the same thing. Intention means everything.

"Turning the other cheek" means being the bigger person, so to speak. It doesn't mean, okay, go ahead and kill me for no reason. Even Jesus asked "why do you strike me?" when they arrested Him.

As for killing in self defense, hopefully, one would be able to get away, or render the attacker helpless. Killing in self -defense should only be a last resort (and legally, it is viewed as such. If one has the opportunity to get away from their attacker and kills them needlessly, then it is still considered murder by law, even if they did nothing to provoke an attack)

Look i don't believe in the god that sits in heaven and judges peoples faith while ten babies die!
God Damm! will religious nuts ever grow brains or will they do as the bible and their priests tell them and be a good flock and follow like little sheep?
Have you ever seen a flock of sheep? They follow each other around all day, like the dumb animals they are!!
Why dont they realise the joke is on them when they are called a flock?

i dont know exactly but i reckon that some parts of faith are also to do with just generally acting how Jesus would have acted. Jesus was perfect so if we keep that in mind and keep asking ourselves what He would do in certain situations then God would would be pleased.

God sees our hearts. We can fool ourselves, but we can't fool God. To the pure, all things are pure.

Good answer, Spanky.

God knows our hearts and this is how we are judged by him, not by our deeds
