You can always take the rat to your local health department for testing. Be forewarned, they may quarantine your dog for observation. If you have been keeping up on the dogs shots I doubt that he has contracted the disease. It will also take about two weeks for it to incubate if he has.

Normally, when the dog has had a rabies shot the dog is well protected. I would check with your vet. just to make sure, and if you want to go a little farther, have the rat checked out for rabies. My dog used to chew on everything, but he got all his shots when he was a puppy, and was safe all 14 years. good luck.

Hmmm, i did a Whole report on rabies. But it depends on how long ago your dog has received the shot. Every year or so, you are supposed to bring your dog to the vet to have a check up, and/or receive booster shoots, including that of the rabies vaccination. If you are that worried, you may need to go see your veterinarian for advice, and to just check up on the dog.

the rat would have to have rabies.
if you keep your dog's rabies shots up to date(the first shot is usually for one year, a "booster" then every 3 years) there should not be any problem...most vets say that an animal is not considered immunized until atleast 28 days after shot.

Rabies are rare. I wouldn't worry to much. Just watch your dog closely for awhile. If you notice him/her acting strange then start to worry.

if he's up to date on the shots its very nearly impossible for him to get rabies and besides rabies is VERY rare in rodents such as rats...

Should be ok as long as no rat blood got into any of the dog's open wounds.

No, because because he has already recieved his shots and those shots protect his body safely and will kill instantly the germs that try to make him diseased. Once your dog has got his shots that's it. He is protected and worry-free so you don't have to be!!!!
WONDERFUL ISN'T IT!!!
