First of all, we should make the CRUCIAL distinction between Hydrocodone by itself, which is not that commonly prescribed (and considered a Schedule II drug -CII- along with "biggies" like Oxycodone and Cocaine), and Hydrocodone + some other drug, whether it be acetaminophen, ibuprofen, etc., which is VERY commonly prescribed (and considered a Schedule III drug -CIII-).
Vicodin, Lorcet, Norco, etc. are of the latter variety, and the overdose will most likely occur because of the acetaminophen and NOT the narcotic analgesic Hydrocodone.
As the first poster mentions, there is also the factor of whether the user is opiod naive. Even in this case, if the drug used contains more than just hydrocodone, the o.d. will most liklely be because of THAT medication. Generally speaking, respiration is impaired in an opioid naive individual to a danger point when that person takes 30 or more mg of Hydrocodone. The opioid naive Pt. can safely take anywhere from 2.5 to 15 mg safely. As for the assertion that a person highly tolerant who can take "100s" of mg of hydrocodone, PERHAPS so, BUT only if they are taking Hydrocodone Compound (i.e. Hydrocodone by itself).
Also, if the poster meant that the user could take this amount all at once safely, that is highly debatable. Hundreds of milligrams of pure hydrocodone per day, but separated into several doses, certainly- again this level would be safe for only a VERY experienced user with a SUPER HIGH tolerance. TO reiterate, at such a high level of consumption, the drug would have to be ONLY hydrocodone, otherwise, the acetaminophen or other drug with which the narcotic is combined would produce deadly results.

That sort of depends ... how many mg of hydrocodone (or other opiates) does the patient USUALLY take?
A naive patient who does not normally take opiates in any form may get nausea and dizziness from what would be considered a normal dose 2.5-10mg.
An opiate tolerant person who is on large doses of long acting opiates normally might tolerate 100's of mg of hydrocodone.
