Go to the salon it's best --- but ---- tell her that you want the highlights "not at the part," so they are sort of under the top layers...that way the growth at the root/part area will not be so obvious. You won't have to go back so often for a retouch. The salon will get the results you want and it's best to do a consultation first (free) and also bring in pics of the effect you are trying to achieve. Pictures help a lot more than a mere description.

Go to the beauty supply store and ask for an item that removes brass tones. It should be a purple mixture. That is what I used when I bleached the top of my hair from dark brown to blonde.

I would suggest going to a professional for this type of situation. You might mess it up and your hair might not turn out the way you wanted it to.
How long is your hair? If it's fairly short, it won't cost as much as super long hair. If you're scared you might spend too much money, go to a salon run by a cosmetology school. This way, it'll be a LOT cheaper. And, the students are supervised at ALL TIMES by their instructor. If instructors see that things aren't going well, they'll take over. That would be the best solution for yourself, and your wallet.
Hope that helps!

it depends on how dark ur hair is... my hair is really dark brown and my hair never goes a nice blond unless i go to a hairdressers or buy the bleech from a h/dressers w/house... the bleech u get from a shop is just not strong enough... and it would depend on if u have any other colour in ur hair aswell coz the bleech has got to strip that back as well as ur own hair....good luc...xxx

Well i did mine from black to blonde, and my roots went really blonde but the rest was ginger. dont use bleach to much thought because i used bleach then the next day i died it and kept dying it every few months and my hair was dry its was stupid! and my hair was ripping out, so just be careful what you use and do.

the best way to get desired results would be to go to a salon and let professionals do it for you. it IS your hair, so you don't want to ruin it and that can happen when you do it yourself.
i've done it before and i have ended up getting a color different than the one i wanted. it's just really hard to get it right on yourself.
go to a hair salon :-)
