It depends on the branch and the command the person is attached to. My experience with the Navy varied with my career. At one time, I had duty every third day. If I had duty on Monday, I would go to work Monday morning, come home Tuesday night, go to work Thursday morning, come home Friday night, etc. At one time I was in 6 section duty, so Mon work, home Tue, Sat work, home Sunday. The rest of the week was normal working hours. Often if our duty day fell on a Saturday, it would include duty on Sunday also. At one command where that worked, you were ELIGIBLE (depending on work requirements) to have off the following Friday and Monday after your weekend duty.
The military is authorized 30 paid days of leave/vacation a year, depending on the operational needs of the command.
Also with deployments, that cuts into your home time. I was gone, during my career(while married), 13 months, 12 months and twice at 6 months each. My first deployment, to Viet Nam for a year, I was single.
My best at home time was when I was on permanent Shore Patrol duty in Sardinia. I would go to work Mon & Tue from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., back at work on Wed & Thur at 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.. Then I was off until 6 a.m. again Sunday and continued the 12 on, 12 off rotation.
Don't forget, we get Federal holidays off, too, if we don't have duty.

Well, I spend almost every night at home. It really depends on your job and unit. If you are not deployed, life isn't bad. I was in an infantry unit that always had a three day weekend (following a 15 mile Thursday ruck march) and we were off at 4:30 if we weren't in the field. We went to the field for 2-4 weeks at a time about once a quarter. The rest of the time was spent at ranges and working on first aide etc.

When I deployed to Iraq in 2004, I was an infantry squad leader and we worked our tails off. There really weren't regular hours because...well....war isn't predictable.

Now I have a desk job so I work 9-5 and get 30 days of paid leave per year.

It depends on what you mean by home.

If you mean home as in with your wife and kids that depends on your unit and what work has to be done for the day. My husband when he is at our base works any where from 10 to 16 hours a day Mon-Fri (except for federal holidays) if he doesn't have to stand duty. And if he isn't in the field, and if he isn't doing work ups to go to Iraq or out on float. There are a lot of factors that will determine how long he is home with me and the kids.

If you mean home as in hometown. You get 30 days a year of leave.

my husband is navy and in one year with a deployment in it which is 6 months gone totally..........then you have the work ups and all that good stuff which can be a few weeks out and then a few 10 days and then you have a long ish one about 4 to 6 weeks just before the big deployment........so as a rough guide in the year of a deployment he could be gone as much as 9 + months of that year and then of course when he IS home they all still work every day and then add to that pull duty which depending on the ship can be every 5 days or every 8 days [some do do it different tho].

One golden year he was gone for Christmas.......missed Valentines day, then our wedding anniversary, both kids birthdays and had duty for thanks giving and Halloween.........

by home do you mean in the states at your base with your wife and kids...or do you mean going back to your hometown to visit the rest of your family?....if you mean going away from base you get 2.5 days each month for a total of 30 days a year and you can accumulate 60 days before you get put into what they call use or lose.........you have to use the leave or they take it away.....if you mean home as in at your base it depends on your unit really and how much they deploy

It depends on your deployment schedule and what branch you're in... but generally, you'll get more than 30 days a year. That's 30 days of paid leave...

if by home you mean the base you are stationed at with your family it could be as much as a whole year.

I know people who have been in for years and have never deployed.

I have been deployed almost half the time I have been in.

30 days a year, but you can save up to 60 days or more when you are deployed, but that does'nt mean you will get what you ask for due to constraints on troops these days.
