I suggest that you contact your local volunteer center. Volunteer centers specialize in connecting you with all sorts of fun volunteer projects that can be one-time, short-term, or long-term. They can typically find something for you that matches your interests as well.

Through my volunteer center, I work with children as a tutor at the library. I also lead a group of teens at the local museum to enhance visitor experience. In addition, I also work at the local children's shelter, food bank, and local parks. Age makes no difference. I've worked alongside volunteers as young as 5 years old at the food bank. Some projects require a parent along, some do not. At the library, for example, I have volunteers as young as 14 doing the tutoring.

Some community service groups such as the Boys and Girls clubs also have scholarship programs for thier volunteers, I have also volunteered with Red Cross, St. John's Ambulance, Ontario Sudents Against Impaired Driving, the Women's Shelter, Pregnancy Crisis Centre, Cancer Society, Easter Seals, and now I am a volunteer storyteller in the library.

As another answerer suggested, your local volunteer center is going to be a fantastic help to you. They are generally aware of the volunteer needs in the non-profit community and can help you find an opportunity you'll love based on your schedule and interests! If you don't have a volunteer center im your area, talk to your local United Way. You can also check websites such as volunteermatch and 1800Volunteer. org to help you find opportunities in your area.
Good luck!

Great question. First you need to find what you like to do and are most passionate about. It's important for volunteers to be passionate about what they do. Think back to what got you thinking the most; seeing litter, a topic that bothered you on the news, people dieing of a certain disease, war, whatever. Then ask around in you community on how you can solve this problem. Go on-line or teachers always have ideas. If you can't find a program to help, start one yourself!

One resource that you can explore if you haven't already, is searching volunteer opportunities online. There is a fantastic website that you can refer to that'll list a great list of volunteer work that's available in your area. The resource is free and it specifically lists volunteering work. Here is the website: www.volunteermatch.com. I hope this helps in some small way, if any. Happy surfing, and best of luck with your search!

Go to the library and see if they have a program for you to read to little kids while mom is selecting books, or having a cup of coffee. If not see if you can set one up, post it on the boards, the when where in the library, and what book you are going to read. Then show up in costume (not all out if your not comfortable, but maybe a medieval pointed hat with a pink scarf and read Cinderella) Always let them know what you will be reading, pretty soon you will be a hero with a little herd of kids in costume!!! GOOD LUCK

Sure!
I'm sure your local animal shelter can use help...most of the time, they're non-profit organizations, so they're low on cash to pay employees with.
There's also the option of working at your local homeless shelter or soup kitchen.
If you're looking for something else, try checking with your local Kiwanis Club or Lion's Club...They will have projects that they're working on, where they'd love to have young people helping out. They also both have clubs that work on high-school campuses...if there's not already one at your school, you could start one!
