everything we do as Christians should bring glory to God - so no, Christians should not swear.
life and death are in the power of the tongue - so we want life to come from our mouth - lips that not only bring glory to God, but edify the hearer.
James 3:8 - "But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom."

If you do not know the answer to that question you are not a real christian. Im not saying that in a mean way. But christians need to know the diffrence of the world and relgion. We do not cuss, God says to watch what comes from the mouth. We have to be example to others. If we are cursing and swearing, we look like everyone else. =]

No, it is not right for christians to swear and cuss. The bible says that "a worthless person, a wicked man walks with a perverse mouth." (Proverbs 6:12) Read James Chapter 3 and it will tell you about the tongue being the most untamable part of your body that can't be tamed. We are to walk in Jesus' example while he was here on earth. We are not to conform to the ways of the world. I don't believe that you have ever heard Jesus use 4 letter words in your prayers or in your reading of the bible. I know somewhere I am not sure, the bible talks about your tongue being the window to your heart. The things that you speak show what you have in your heart. It is not right to cuss and to swear or to use God's name in vain that is considered to be blasphemy. We are to use our tongues to praise and worship Him and not to curse and say evil or unpleasant things. If you think about it, next time you go to church listen to your preacher give his sermon, does he cuss and swear at you in his message?

No, it's not right because a person who goes around swearing and cussing doesn't present a good picture of someone who claims that the Holy God of Heaven is his or her Father.
Ephesians 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. 3 But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. 4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.

Religion has nothing to do with good morals. If you find yourself occasionally blurting out a cuss, then you're ok. However, different factors come in if you cuss a little more than that. Especially if there are children around. Just remember that religion is not a prerequisite for good morals. That is a common misconception among deists. So try to keep your mouth clean and save the cusses for when you intend to use them with appropriate conviction. A cuss, just like religion after all, is just another man-made concept.

They're just words and words don't hurt - they express. So I don't think Christians are excluded from swearing and I see nothing wrong with a Christian who swears. But I'm guessing a lot of Christians find it disrespectful and profane because we've been conditioned, as a society, to look at words as "good" and "bad". But the reality is that words, by themselves, aren't bad. It's our perception of them that makes a word benign or profane.

were told to use right speech so im sure were not supposed to use filthy language or anything that would bring insult to anyone. mostly honey i believe that the lost have their own standards of what we as christians are and are,nt to do. and they are always watching us so we try not to give them reason to say" And you call yourself christian?" or "I know this christian girl and she curses all the time! she aint no better than me! (know what i mean?) We are the light on the hill! remember? and if we look like the rest of the world ,who do they turn to? let your light so shine!
now if you have a bad habit of cursing i know it,s hard to get over. I did,nt get saved untill my twenties and i had a bad mouth .it took alot of prayer and biting my tongue to breaak that habit.and it still can fly out of my mouth sometimes without thinking. so it s best not to get started at all.
peace><>

Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion [is] vain.
For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile
__________
All of the above are from the Bible. The below is from my grandmother (mother of 8 children):
Folks cuss because they are too lazy or ignorant to use the right adjective :)

Is it right? No.
Does it happen? Yes.
As Christians we are nothing more than sinners saved by Grace. We have embraced a gift of God because we want a relationship with Him. Nothing about this makes us or requires us to be perfect.
The best we can do is try to "go and sin no more"....

I personally do not think that it is very becoming of a Christian to swear. I don't like it when any one swears. Christian or not.
