I have had a discussion with my boyfriend about this issue several times. I hate it when people stay in the left lane on the freeway the whole time. I say, when you pass someone, move back over into the right lane as it is courteous and helps the flow of traffic. He says it is legal in California and most people just stay in the left lane if they are going fast. The problem is that there is always someone who will be driving faster than you unless you are driving 100 mph and then they pass you on the right. I hate it when I am going fast and half to pass someone on the right because the person in the left lane is daydreaming, whatever, and holding up traffic!

Any thoughts?

Please don't tell me the laws about speeding. I have lived in six states and know speeding is against the law.

In california maybe it isn't law that you have to get out of the left lane for travel, but you can get ticketed for driving in the left lane if you are impeding the flow of traffic.

The C.V.C. (California Vehicle Code) states: No vehicle shall travel faster than the posted maximum speed, so when you see those signs saying "slower traffic keep right" it means those going slower than the SPEED LIMIT. NOT slower than you wish to go.

In Ca. there is no requirement to use the left lane for passing only, You can stay in the left lane all day long if you choose to, mainly because there are almost always 4 to 8 lanes of traffic in EACH direction.

I'm not sure about California, but in most states it is a law to stay in the right lane and to use left only for passing. Nobody enforces it, though....

i'm 100% with u!!! ya, i know that there is no 'law' that says that the left lane isnt a passing lane, but if more people used it like one, i think traffic would run a lot smoother!
