I have a japanese Chin, he's 2 yrs old and a sweetheart. He, like most dogs, loves being rubbed. I like to see him happy so I rub him! When I rub his tummy/chest he'll make a low noise that sounds like purrring, He scts like he enjoys this love fest and has never actuately growled or showed any other acts that would indicate that he is unhappy. He only makes this sound, which sounds like purring. help! Patricia

One of my dogs does what we call "Chewbacca noises" when we rub her belly..... it sounds like the same thing you are describing. She'll do it sometimes when she gets up and stretches, too.

She's a big talker and makes all sorts of sounds that don't sound very dog-like. She will even carry on a conversation back and forth for as long as you are willing to converse with her. She loves it! I swear one of these days she's actually going to blurt something out in English, because she sure is listening and even seems to be understanding.

Haha, this question is funny. I'm not mocking you- it's just that my dog purrs also! I think that he either has identity disorder and thinks he's a cat, or it's just his way of saying he's happy.

My Bloodhound does the same when I rub her sides or belly, then licks my forehead. She does it if I lay my head on her too.

it's just deep breathing, my dog did the same thing (my mom called them her "love noises")
