i cannot afford to get it lasered off, but its about 2 in 4in oval on my right shin.
every since i was little people have said things like OH WHAT DID YOU DO? what happened!!?? and they'd poke it and say does that hurt? Most of the time i just wear skirts or shorts without even noticing it is there until people stare at it in the halls (and it not even that noticeable) its like a medium brown color.
Would you be grossed out by this??

of course not! Your birthmark is what makes you unique! I have a birthmark on my right calf--its about the size of 2 silver dollars. When I was little my dad told me that no one else in the world had anything like it, and that I was unique because of it. Its your badge of you--wear it with pride!
p.s. i also have a long dark scar on my right shin that people also poke at, but i just tell them that my scar is a tattoo with a better story...

No, no. You must still be young. People are going to focus on any little thing they can when you're younger. It's not a big deal at all. Try not to let their dumb behavior bother you. I know it's hard, but it's really all you should do. You don't have to get your birthmark removed, it's part of what makes you different, and that's actually a good thing, even though people want to make it seem bad. When you're younger, everyone is scared to be different because they don't know how people will react to it. So they try to highlight the way they "belong" by pointing out the things that make other people stand out. But standing out is a good thing. In a few years, everyone's going to be trying to do lots of crazy things to make it seem like they stand out!

One of my best friends in school had a birthmark on her lower leg. She used to be freaked out about it and so sensitive. People did use to make fun of it, but I know that nobody really thought it was a big deal, they just knew they could get her upset by making fun of it. I also know that a lot of those kids were just jealous of other things she had going for her, because she was talented, smart, and pretty (and a little bossy, which probably made some people mad. ;)) Now she's all grown up and doing very interesting stuff with her life that lots of people would be jealous about. She was also doing that interesting and exciting stuff even in high school. And she's never been lacking in people who thought she was lovely and amazing. I also haven't heard anyone mention her birthmark since probably 9th grade.

Trust me, your birthmark is nothing to worry about.

edit: I see others are recommending that you can find makeup to cover it. You can, but I wouldn't bother if I were you. Makeup would be a plan if it was on your face (it can make you a lot more self-conscious if you have a large birthmark on your face), but on your leg or any other part of your body it seems unnecessary. But if you must, Dermablend and AmazingConcealer (amazingconcealer.com) are both what professional makeup artists use to cover things like tattoos and birthmarks when stars need them covered for a role. But notice that most celebrities with moles, birthmarks, freckles, tattoos, and scars all show their unique marks when they're being themselves.

I too have a large birthmark on my leg. When I was a kid I never wore dresses so that people wouldn’t comment on it. I would just say “I hate dresses” and always wore jeans. Now I am an adult and I love my birthmark. It is uniquely me. I have excellent insurance and I could have it removed but I think that God gave it to me. I have something that no one else has. It’s my birthmark. I told my kids it’s where the angels kissed me.

It's okay to have birthmarks. I have a few tiny moles on my face as well, but I'd just cover some of them up with concealer. Maybe you can try using some concealer on it to lighten the colour a bit so it wouldn't be as dark and noticeable.

Isnt't is remarkable to have such a silly, meaningless little "difference" about you that people find it necessary to make comments and judgements about it? Now imagine what it's like to be very different..."too short...or fat....or tall....or unattractive {whose opinion)?....or handicapped, and on and on ad nauseum. $%# what people think of your birthmark.

You can probably get a make up concealer that will hide it if it really bothers you .

You would want to talk to a cosmetics person familiar with covering scars or birthmarks.

No, it wouldn't bother me and as far as those people go, just stare back at them. They are being totally immature and not worth your time.

Hey, just get an elastic wrist band & place it on your shin to cover up your birthmark. I f people ask what it's for tell them you like the colors or whatever. . . Hang in there . . .
